Best Way to Reattach Car Mirror?

The glass of my car mirror fell out. Actually, the piece looks like highly polished metal. Anyway, what is the best way to reattach? Superglue? Or, should I just look for a mirror with a sticky back at an auto parts store? (Luckily, this is the passenger side mirror, not the driver’s side.)

They make mirror adhesive for attaching mirrors to walls in houses. It’s designed to not corrode the coating on the mirror back, and to hold a lot of weight. A tube would cost a few bucks, I’d guess. Read the label to see if it can take the higher heat you get in a car, that you don’t have in a house

I don’t know if it would adhere to the plastic inside the mirror holder, but if there are holes, just make sure it goops into them, to get a good mechanical attachment.

Or check an auto parts store, and see if they have mirror adhesive designed for cars.

If going to your regular mechanic isn’t too much trouble, go to your regular mechanic. Mirror glue is messy shit and the $20-$30 a mechanic would charge you is well worth the price not to have to deal with it.

You can probably find a pretty cheap pre-cut mirror lens for your specific application online with the adhesive already on it so you don’t have to futz with trying to glue the old one.

Of course, if this is a mirror where you have to reach out and adjust it yourself as opposed to a power or remote mirror, just grabbing a whole junkyard mirror assembly might be the way to go. The lens itself will probably be better on an OEM used part than a cheapo aftermarket one.
