Ok, so I got a laptop for school, a nice IBM T40 Thinkpad. Predictably it came with two stickers, one proudly announcing the Pentium M processor and the other proving it was designed to crash… I mean, run Windows XP. In any case, the stickers are made out of what seems to be a thick foil and are stuck down with glue resembling alien snot. This is unfortunate as both stickers are under the heel of my left hand when typing, and are becoming quite annoying. I think I could pry the stickers off with a pocket knife, but they would leave two patches of snot-glue behind. Has anyone ever had luck removing stickers of this type?
There are stickiness removers, some of which contain something made from citric juice. One such product is called Goo Gone. I’ve found that this works to remove the sticky remains after you pick off a sticker.
I second the Goo Gone, as I used it myself to clean up after removing a Designed for Windows sticker from my laptop.
WD-40 also works well, but don’t spray it directly on the laptop, spray it onto a paper towel and use that to wipe it off.
On a related subject - how do you remove aluminum case badges? My PC case is black anodized aluminum, and the manufacturer stuck their logo on it.
A: I don’t want their logo on the front of my computer.
B: If I want anything there, it’ll be a badge saying “Made by gotpasswords”
C: They stuck it on crooked.
Crooked or not, it’s on tight. And since it’s not a sticker, it’s not curling up anywhere to get a fingernail under it. I want to get rid of it, but don’t want to scratch the case, either.
