A sushi roll for every state

Utah: brine shrimp tempura, green jello, wrapped in wonder bread.

Hawaiian sushi really does have SPAM as the meat. Hawaii has plenty of Japanese and other Asian food influences but the true local specialties are often just plain odd. They really do love SPAM and sell it on top of a rice roll wrapped with seaweed in most convenience stores as snack or breakfast food. I had it a few months ago in Oahu. SPAM sushi, ummm.

Aka “spam musubi”. Brrr…

Louisiana roll - blackened catfish and cole slaw

since clambakes are popular in Ohio, I’d make an Ohio roll with clams, not sure what else

Yooper roll, cuz we don’t want to be associated with Lower Michigan: Lake Superior Whitefish (cooked), fiddlehead ferns, and a blueberry/thimbleberry sauce. Yum!

Edit: and maybe some cheese curds or Wisconsin cheddar, to even further distance ourselves from Lower Michigan and get in with Wisconsin.

First thing I thought for the Michigan roll was Trout and Red Cherry(which would add the rust color  )

Almost said whitefish ,instead of trout, but the outside of the Yooper roll has to be a pasty dough…with a slice of rutabaga inside also.

I guess a Michigan roll should have a bit of Morel mushroom as well.

My understanding is that it is a form of seasoned, dried, slivered codfish, from Korea by way of Hawaii. How does that get into a “Virginia” roll? I couldn’t tell you.

Clam and a small buckeye (sorry, Opal), inside a pierogi.

Arizona: tilapia, jalapeno, and prickly pear jam on cilantro rice.

North Carolina: Pulled pork with barbecue sauce and cole slaw on rice with corn meal on the outside.

I think it would more likely be the tuna hot dish roll. Tuna, noodles, peas, and cream of chicken soup.

Or perhaps it ought to be the walleye roll, deep-fried of course.

I protest the omission of lime jello salad. Other than that, the Minnesota recipe sounds about right.

I will.

It has to Walleye with wild rice.

New Hampshire: Fugu and rice. Live free or die!

New Jersey Roll: Salt Water Taffy & “Fish” Cafaro wrapped in wakame, on a bed of hypodermic needles.

Mississippi roll: fried catfish with turnip greens, wrapped in a kudzu leaf. Bread that sucker with corn meal, then deep fry the whole damn thing.

Wyoming roll: steak.

Fish? Rice? What kinda Commie are you?

Nah, that’s not going to work. The Pennsylvania roll must have some pretzel in it somewhere.

I dunno, I just had an awesome plate of basil lamb in a Thai restaurant in Rawlins, WY. You might be surprised.

Arkansas Roll (obviously going to be similar to MS and LA rolls):

Catfish with BBQ sauce and Arkansas-grown rice.
