A great story when most of what I read in the news is bad these days.
HELENA, Mont. – A 7-year-old golden retriever named Buck, startled by a train whistle last summer and lost for six months in north-central Montana, is back home in Washington state thanks to the efforts of several Chester residents.

Wouldn’t it be interesting to know where the dog has been all this time? I’m glad he’s back home with his family - and hopefully always on a leash when they bring him to unfamiliar places!
I think the best part of the story (besides the obvious “lost dog rescued” aspect) was that the family that found him apparently dropped everything, jumped in the car, and drove 750 miles just to return him.
People really are good, all in all.
I read it differently, I thought his owners were the ones to make the trip. Hmmm, gotta go back and take a look again.
I also read it that it was the owners who drove the 750 miles to be reunited with their dog. However, having been in Chester, I can easily see why the finders might have done it: any excuse to get out of there (especially in winter) is a good one.
Great story, but chip your pets! That dog makes it to the next town over and he is gone forever.
And yes my dogs are chipped.
