I thought about doing this privately in email but ultimately decided against it as I wanted to share my mundane and pointless thank you and give recognition to a fellow Doper for a good deed.
In a recent MPSIMS thread, I asked the board for suggestions on how to prepare to move into my first apartment when all I own are two suitcases of clothes. As usual, dozens of people chimed in with helpful ideas and suggestions and one or two even went a step further and offered to help me out personally… **Kallessa ** being one of them.
She told me in the thread that she might have some items in her house that she no longer has any need for and if I was interested, to contact her via email, which I did. We hammered out a meeting time, which was late yesterday evening, and when the time came, I gathered up the stuff she said no longer wanted and headed back home but not before having a nice chat over a cold beer.
Once back at my place, I finally got a chance to look at exactly what she gave me and noticed something odd. Almost all these items that she said she had laying around her house seemed to show no wear and some of them seemed to even have sticky spots where price tags used to be. Most peculiar of all were half a dozen kitchenware items that still had their factory packaging on them.
I fully admit to being as dense as a neutron star sometimes but even I can put two and two together in a situation such as this and figure out that these supposed secondhand items are actually new with the exception of one or two items.
I have to admit, when I realized that, I was shocked and a little bit touched. Granted, it was only kitchenware but that someone who was, in effect, a stranger and had had no previous contact with me whatsoever would do something as nice as that is just touching. I’ve had other Dopers help me out in ways much more significant but they were all my friends before helping me whereas she didn’t know me any different from the other 46,000 members of this board.
I’m finally understanding why some people consider this a community. It’s people like **Kallessa ** that make it so.
Thank you.
