I love it.
Time to buy Jiffy-Pop stock.
What are the ‘official’ rules for this? Or am I being naive and there are no rules?
Is this Merrick Garland all over again, but worse?
Kevin McCarthy claims he’ll appoint members this week, but I think even if he doesn’t it’s not a Merrick Garland situation - since the Democrats are in the majority they can change the rules if they really want to.
I see claims that the Speaker can appoint whoever she wants to the committee, and that asking someone else to do so is only a common courtesy tradition…?
What if she appointed some Republicans to the committee? I guess their heads would explode, eh? Or Mitch McConnell’s anyway. Which wouldn’t be a bad thing.
She should appoint Republicans. From Districts that are in play or having been moving D. Put them on the spot and make them run on the obstruction.
I’m glad you agree. I think out would be smart.
Do they have to be in Congress to be on the committees? The speaker doesn’t have to be a Rep. so it’s not as stupid a question as it sounds. Could she be like “Fuck all y’all. Give me someone by February or I’m calling in Hillary, Obama, and the most lefty liberals I can think of who were fucked over in 2016 to roast your balls”?
Committees don’t have a quorum, and thus can’t do anything, unless they have at least one rep from the minority party seated.
Do the rules say what happens if no-one from the minority party will be seated?
Love it.
But they’ve already got Devin Nunes on the committee, don’t they?
Hopefully, his only duties will be to fetch coffee.
…and to establish that a quorum can exist.
There’s gotta be some parliamentary ruse to get around that.
Can a committee investigate a member of that committee?
