I’ve not had a drink* for just over a week after a considerable time over having at least something every evening for… let’s say “some time”. After such a short break will I feel any difference in effects, or will it be back to “normal”?
FWIW I don’t intend to go back to my previous levels of intake, ever. But hey one weekend at a time OK?
So, this evening, if I have a few glasses of wine, and a beer with the curry what can I expect?
of booze that is, I’m English so I’ve drunk tea obviously.
I don’t think you’ll notice any difference. If I may ask, was your abstinence for any particular reason? I mean, were you just taking a break, or ill, or just trying to see if you could do it?
More importantly, is the curry home made or take away?
Yeah, your tolerance for alcohol isn’t going to change over the course of a week, one way or the other. And anecdotally, it really depends on how much you typically drink and how big you are. Meaning that if you’re a big 300 lb guy like myself, one or two drinks doesn’t have much effect even after a relatively long period of abstinence.
Give yourself a month or two, and it may be a different story.

Long term health, really. I’ve stopped temporarily before, thought I’d make it more permanent (and maybe live longer).
Home made! What do you take me for Chicken madras or dhansak Friday, tandoori Saturday.
I love, just love, the assumption that any reduction in alcohol intake is because the person “has a problem.”
“You can live to be 100 by giving up everything that makes life worthwhile.” - I’ve come to believe this more and more in my advancing years.
I’ve had three or four periods of long abstinence and other shorter ones (for reasons that are neither here nor there nor particularly obvious), and it takes at least a month or two before I notice any real change in my response to the first drink or two of a day. A week - unless you have unusual body chemistry, any extra hit you feel is likely to be psychological, not physical.
You can actual feel an effect quite quickly. I reduced by alcohol consumption by about 33% starting in February, and I could feel a difference in my alcohol sensitivity within a couple weeks (I feel more of an effect from, say, two drinks now than I used to).

Thank you. Reply #1 is “Why not just quit?” Actually I could quit, I just don’t want to.
I’m not stopping, just slowing down, more days off than on. Just trying to be a little bit more sensible.
Anecdotally, I agree. I’m a daily drinker, for the most part, but if I go even just two or three days without a drink, I’ll feel the alcohol hit me much more quickly. Normally, I don’t feel any buzz at all after one beer, but if I don’t have it for a couple of days or longer, I’ll feel the alcohol effects even after a single beer.
