A very disturbing message board...

It just occured to me - (after about 3 seconds looking at the website) these people’s whole lives revolve around being white! thousands and thousands of posts, all about being white.

That is what I call an empty life. Let them exist - their lives must be torture enough.

Dare I register? At least there I’d know I’m right and they’re wrong.

(Here in the SDMB it’s the other way round)

No I daren’t because deep down I know that no good (for me, anyway) can possibly come of it.

(although I have quite successfully changed the views of individual racists in the past)

<hijack> To prune a forest. </hijack>

Keep people like this out in the open.
Do you think if we asked nice, they would wear little pink “R’s” on their clothing so we know who they are?

I feel like the SDMB night-caretaker (I am always around while everyone else is at home in bed)

I know that’s not true. but that’s what it feel like. It feels like I have the forums all to myself, skating around twiddling my thumbs.

Hence the multiple threads - sorry - I will shut up now)

Tir, search engines haven’t relied on metatags for a good while, ever since idiots began spamming them by putting junk in the tags that had nothing to do with the site. Google, the Search King, has a rather complex and more-or-less secret method called PageRank that assigns weight to a page based on the number and weight of the pages that link to that page. Metatags are basically ignored by good search engines these days, and even the page’s actual text is secondary to another, more intelligent mechanism.

(BTW, I doubt Google can (or does) crawl SDMB threads. Our links to pages don’t count for shit, so don’t worry. :))

Lobsang: I like what Coldie did, actually: It’s a way to remove the possibility of the Stormfront morons linking an increase in traffic back to us (via the moronic referrer information browsers are so damned willing to share) while, at the same time, allowing users to explore that area of the internet by not destroying the link to it. I enjoy a discussion forum that can accept any place, even a place as bad as Stormfront, into its universe, even if that place is relegated to a bare mention and a couple of altered-but-not-destroyed links.

And I agree with you about their empty lives. I tend to focus on computers to the exclusion of other things (well, mainly to the exclusion of sports and most TV :)), but I have other things to bring meaning and joy to my existence (family, for one, and reading, and writing, and music, and my love of nature and walking). They do not, and I pity them for that.

Finally, Lob, I’m around nights, too. Hello to a fellow nightowl.

Lobsang, what you did was name the link differently. In your example, the BBC could still trace the click back to the SDMB. That was the point.

I wish this was in The Pit. Then I could express myself properly.

Sad, sad world.

Coldfire - the bbc could. but not the white nationalist website

I think you got my meaning the wrong way round (I should have mentioned it actually)

Have the visual link be the correct one, and the non-visual be either incorrect or completely null. thus achieving the same effect (no actual link, but a means for people to go there if they want to)

leander express yourself in a way that is above and beyond the wit and intelligence of the patrons of that set of boards. The pit is not the place for that.

Nothing pisses off stupid people more than a calm, measured attack of their stupidity.

(I believe)

Ah, right. Yeah, that would work, too.

You’re right, of course. Though I doubt anyone from over yonder would set foot in a place as thoughtful and intelligent as this. It would undoubtedly cause their tiny brains to explode.

Oh, they did this past summer. They tried very hard to get us to see their point of view, and there were a couple of rather long threads in GD where we argued with them. I’m afraid it wasn’t all that challenging, especially when they started tag-teaming us, with one person after another coming in, making the same arguements, and getting shot down with the same counter-arguements. We even discussed whether or not engaging in on-going dialog with them was a waste of time. I thought it wasn’t, not because I expected to change their minds, but because it was a way of publicly exposing how little merit their arguements had.

Even though we thanked them at the time, I’d like to thank our moderators again for all the extra work they took on during that time. You did a terrific job!

CJ

I must have missed the stromfront battles because I placed a link to their message board a few days ago and it was removed by a moderator, the place is like the Straight Dope of the “mirror universe.”

[QUOTEI have other things to bring meaning and joy to my existence (family, for one, and reading, and writing, and music, and my love of nature and walking). They do not, and I pity them for that.[/QUOTE]

How can you say they don’t enjoy poetry, reading, writing, music and a love of nature and walking? That board exist to discuss only one social issue. So of course only that one social issue is discussed.

They are, in your opinion, wrong on that social issue. The point of my post is not to dicuss the merits of that posistion. I’m asking why shouldn’t they enjoy poetry or a love of nature? Just because they are, in your opinion, wrong about one social issue?

I dare say youse guys share much in common with the posters of that board. Their criteria for predjudice is race, yours is intelligence. The difference being they have empirical evidence of race while you have no evidence of IQ level except for a position on one signal social issue.

There is no poetry forum here. What does that tell someone visiting both boards?

On the one hand, I tend to agree that it is an easy trap that people fall into, to demonize or dehumanize other people with whom we disagree. I think that some of that has occurred in this thread. Hating people for opinions is no less hateful than hating them for acidents of birth. (Although I also suspect that some reactions, here, are not carefully considered choices to treat others as lesser beings, but rather, simply reactions to the shock of encountering so much distilled hatred concentrated in one location from so many people.)

On the other hand, the conclusions reached, here, regarding intelligence, there, have at least as much foundation as any purported “empirical evidence” for race that the NA claims, (with of course, just as much likelihood of error). It is based, not on their single social issue, but on their unswerving adherence to poor logic, twisted claims of evidence, and inconsistent applications of their own beliefs.

That our poets are good enough to get published while our poetasters have the good sense to not foist off their efforts on the public?

I find it humorous that you almost imply they’re stupid in the midst of trying to defend them.

I also find it funny that you feel they are more right for implying that since their skin color is definite, they have a right to an opinion, but because our intelligence is not depicted as some arbitrary number under placed under our names, we do not.

Do I, as an idiot, not have the right to an opinion? I think I speak for all idiots when I say, tish tosh. The internet is full of us. The user friendly nature created by smart people allows to be everywhere, including here.

In any case, the fact that I do not see a poetry forum here tells someone that one site does not include a poetry forum. That’s about it. A poetry forum isn’t exactly a new and innovative feature.

Besides, if you read the site, it covers many social issues, not one. Sure, the root of it may be the same, but there are some VERY valid points thrown in there. The fact that much of it is driven by hate is unfortunate, but you can’t deny at least some portions of it are quite logical.

There’s some scary and offensive crap on this board too:

Point taken. Their logic seems based on the one primary axiom of race superiority.

What galls me is the new predjudice based on intelligence. I find it just as appalling. The predjudice hasn’t changed, just the words --stupid has replaced nigger.

I might have missed this, but how can they do that?
