Heh. I’ve not been to a BJ bar in ages. Happily married these days. That is to say, I’ve not been to one as a customer since my salad days. I’ll accompany friends, especially newbies who were keen to try it, and I know the management of one or two. Many guys like to start the evening off at one; relieves the pressure, so to speak. Lolita’s chain of BJ bars used to have a website, which I posted in another thread, but it’s down now. The bar is still there, but there’s some sort of weird tussle in upper management, and they let the hosting lapse. Not sure what’s up with that.
But not much to tell about them really. They are what they sound like. Some bars will take you take you upstairs or to a partitioned-off area to do the deed; others will do you as you’re sitting at the bar having a cold beer and chatting with your buddy. Walk into Star of Light in Patpong 2 and you’ll often walk right into a full-blown (pun intended :D) orgy! The best BJ-bar name I’ve heard of is The Pump Station, in Pattaya.
I know very little about Thailand and it’s(apparently booming) sex trade. Are these types of bars run by organized crime, or is it perfectly legal? Does “legal” mean much of anything when it comes to things like this? I’m sure it’s far and away not the most outrageous thing in the sex industry of Thailand, but I still find the concept intriguing. :o
No offense to anyone… but I find the whole concept squicky, sad and disturbing. 
Prostitution is illegal, but no one cares. Organized crime does not control the trade. I know quite a few bar owners. The girls come and go. There are, however, quite a few British and Russiin gangsters, especially in Pattaya. Many of them own bars. If they “contol” prostitution, it involves only, say, Russian prostitutes, who are expensive and sought after mainly by Thai men. Mainly they’re just hanging out away from the “heat” back home, or they’re involved in the drug or arms trade. Anyone can be a bar owner, but you’ll lose your shirt if you’ve not a background in the industry. So many guys have thought owning a bar in their Bangkok in their twilight years would be perfect, only to lose everything.
And as far as these girls go, some guys will NEVER learn. I know a married couple stateside, and the wife’s uncle lives here in Bangkok. I’ve never met him, but he was just divorced from his third Thai wife. I don’t know about the first two, but this third one was an ex-bargirl. He’s been taken to the cleaners, too, for the third time. He did own a little bar or restaurant, and I think the now ex-wife has that.
I have heard similar stories from Gay guys who go to Thailand and fall in love and - well, different strokes - but same story.
One thing that amazes me is that most of these guys apparently do not have a mirror at home…the picture of the guy in the OP’s story is not all that bad, but I know guys who are grossly obese, or old as dirt, or both - with few if any redeeming physical features - and they go to Thailand and fall in love with some cute young thing. Then they are shocked, shocked I tell you, to discover that gorgeous person 30-40 years their junior seems to want money! Imagine that! Who’da seen that coming?!

Otherwise, get used to the idea you have fallen in love with a live-in prostitute. Nothing wrong with that, but don’t get pissy (as the dude in the link you provided) when the funds dry out.

I used to work with a guy who was… Well, not Adonis. He was older when I knew him. Balding, scaly dandruff, crooked teeth. Really nice guy, but not handsome. His wife was Filipino. She was attractive for an older lady, and she must have been quite a looker in her day. I think they’d been married about 20 years at the time.
So, it’s obviously possible to meet a Thai women and not get taken to the cleaners. The best advice would be: Don’t go to bars? I can’t say that bars appeal to me, except in a ‘go to the pub after work with a crowd of friends’ sense.
“Pathetic loser” (hey, we’re not all young or good looking) + predatory fraudster doesn’t seem to be a good combination.
Filippino and Thai are different cultures. The lady who does my nails is a Phillipino who married a Dutch guy some 15 years her senior. She came to Holland with him, and stayed married for 20 years, raising a family, untill he died a couple of years ago. I know quite a bit about their marriage, as she is always chatty while doing my nails. 
She isn’t the least bit shy in admitting she married him " for security" and I don’t think she loved him for himself much. For instance, she tried to be as much out of the house as she could when he battled cancer the last year of his life. And she bloomed and flirted like a young girl again just a year after his death.
But the few times I saw him in her salon, he seemed fond of her, proud of her, and satisfied with the marriage.

Not all of the guys taking girls are losers. There are quite a few successful businessmen. There’s the airline pilot I mentioned. Many guys subscribe to the Charlie Sheen “I don’t pay for sex; I pay for them to leave in the morning” philosophy; they just don’t want the hassles of a regular girlfriend. Or they DO have a girlfriend or wife already. I am probably in the minority when it comes to guys living here with a wife or girlfriend and who don’t cheat. At least, among the guys I know, and it’s not just that I know a bunch of degenerates (although there IS that, too). We’re not in Kansas, Toto; when going down to the corner BJ bar for a quickie becomes as normal as picking up a pizza or a newspaper, no one really thinks about it.
And it’s not just guys either. I was in Long Gun Bar in Soi Cowboy last night, and there was a farang lady being awfully familiar with the girls. I suspect she had a good night.
There are stories like that, too, with Thai girls. Sometimes such relationships do work out. The odds are heavily against it, though. In another thread on a similar topic, someone detailed how his brother’s Filipina bargirl bride had taken him to the cleaners big time. Not an old guy either; met her as a strapping young sailor.
