Right now I’m listening to “The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady,” probably my all-time most listened to album, but now that I’m using headphones I just noticed something I’ve never heard before. During a piano solo on the fourth track, there’s a voice that sounds like it’s saying “stab him.” Anybody know anything about this?
<totally unrelated>
Love the name.
It’s 5:25 minutes into track four, if anybody else wants to check it out. Damn, I love this album so much, and it’s been so long since I’ve heard anything new on it. I hope I never get it all…
mingus used to holler all the time while playing…it may be him making a racket and you reading into it to much
but i duno!
Yes. If you play it backwards, it’s Mingus saying “Lester Maddox for President.”
No, I know what Mingus hollering sounds like. This has that kind of muffled walkie talkie kind of sound to it, and anyway seems very out of place for a shout–considering that it’s a fairly introspective piano solo on a recording with no other vocal noise (that I’ve heard, anyway).
Hearing it again, it sounds like it could also be “god damn it.”
