Today’s local paper had this story about the sentencing for a local “hero.”
You’d think, given the history associated wtih this schmuck, a history that this latest victim seems to have been aware of, that he’s gotten arrested in past for domestic violence, only to sweettalk the victim into dropping charges. In this case, the victim was mad enough at the time of the incident to insist on an arrest, and then when the arrest was made, there was enough evidence to support a conviction on some of the charges.
In spite of her trying to stop the prosecution, because, “she was as much at fault as Sulli.”
I know some of the reasons for how women (and men) can get into the position where they make excuses for an abuser. I know that the last thing that any victim of domestic violence needs is to have someone else crapping on them.
But as disgusted as I am with Sulli (He of the “I’m innocent except for the charges that I was acquited of, which I’ll admit to, now.”) I’m almost as disgusted with this woman, too.
She needs something. I don’t want to say that I know exactly what she needs, based on a newspaper article, but what she’s doing now sure doesn’t sound safe. Nor even pleasurable.
I can’t get up the energy for a true Pitting. It’s saddening, and disheartening. It’s coming on top of some news with respect to The Monster that’s worrying and upsetting me, too. There are so many people I’d like to help, not least being myself, and it often feels like there is no way to do it.
I just wish that re-education could be done via re-phrenology*. It would make mental health treatments much more satisfying for the caregivers. And would probably motivate me to get into it…
*For those not familiar with the term: re-phrenology is a hypothetical therapeutic adaptation of phrenology. According to what I’d heard, it’s one of PTerry’s ideas. (Even if it isn’t I’m still giving him credit for it, because it sounds right up his alley.) Since phrenology was the prediction of personality based on bumps on the skull, it follows that to adjust a person’s mentality one may simply add the appropriate bumps to the skull, to try to induce the desired traits.
