Aaron Rodgers and vaccines

Rodgers’ excuse for the J&J is the clotting risk, which of course is still 1 in a million and primarily in women aged 20-50.

So, he’s got a minor point, but it’s like insisting on driving to his away games instead of taking a plane on the off chance it’ll crash.

Bradshaw would have reason to. After he came down with a bad case of the Shingles, he’s not messed about with vaccines. He’s totally on board with listening to medical professionals instead of woo peddlers.

I didn’t watch any games this weekend, so I wasn’t aware of this (but it doesn’t surprise me). That said, if true, that’s a short-term ad trafficking fix, and was likely a fairly easy decision for State Farm and their agencies to make.

Whether or not to end their relationship with Rodgers entirely would be a much bigger decision, and likely would require the involvement of senior management, as well as their legal counsel, since they’d be trying to tear up a contract.

Whoa! Maybe Rodgers has been a transman all along!

His resistance to the J&J vaccine is why I think he’s lying about his allergy as well – he just happens to have issues with all 3 vaccines. Maybe he’s just an anti-vaxxer when it comes to COVID. Allergies to the mRNA vaccine are really, really rare, right?

Jake from State Farm won’t even give him the “Aaron” discount any more.

But people who try to treat Covid with it are taking dosages intended for large animals. Prescribed by a doctor and taking an appropriately-sized dose of it isn’t a problem.

It was NAVY! day or something, they were broadcasting from the naval acadamy with a crowd of naval acadamists in attendance. I couldn’t find a video clip, but here’s some text:

“I’ll give Aaron Rodgers some advice,” Bradshaw said. “It would have been nice if he had just come to the Naval Academy and learned how to be honest. Learned not to lie. Because that’s what you did, Aaron. You lied to everyone. I understand ‘immunized.’ What you were doing was taking stuff that would keep you from getting COVID-19.
You got COVID-19.
Ivermectin is a cattle dewormer. Sorry, folks, that’s what it is. We are a divided nation politically. We are a divided nation on the COVID-19, whether or not to take the vaccine. And unfortunately, we’ve got players that pretty much think only about themselves. And I’m extremely disappointed in the actions of Aaron Rodgers.”
The Midshipmen in attendance cheered Bradshaw after that."

Thanks, Wow. Don’t expect that from a Fox show (yes, sports division is separate from news, I know.)

Upon further consideration, looks like the military theme was because Veteran’s day is this coming Thursday.

Not sure how this needed a discussion or anything such that it didn’t happen within 24 hours of the news breaking but hey…

I guess he takes his health care advice from Joe Rogan. A caller to a local radio show here in Chicago, where we just loooove Aaron Rogers, said that the next time he gets hurt on the field they should send Joe Rogan out there.

Note that that article is from two days ago; Prevea (the Wisconsin healthcare provider in the article) announced that they parted ways with Rodgers on Saturday.

:man_facepalming:

mea culpa; gratias

Again on the radio, just now. “Kaaron Rodgers”. I’ll stop now.

Yes, many are doing that, but some actual doctors are also prescribing it, resulting in pharmacy shortages (as well as the aforementioned feed store shortages). I understand the whole thing is dumb, but reducing it to “it’s for animals” isn’t correct.

And on that note: Please no more on Ivermectin in this thread. That debate has played out in many threads on this board already. It doesn’t need to play out in this one yet again.

I actually agree with this. If the investigation shows that Rodgers followed all of the procedures except for the press conference he should only be punished for not following protocol during the press conferences. On the other hand if the following procedure is just another lie then the NFL needs to come down on him hard and a suspension for the remainder of the season would be reasonable.

They’ve got a week to figure it out but they can’t have people lying and subverting their policies at the risk of other players.

Even if he did follow protocol elsewhere, he needs to be on the hook for misleading the people at the press conferences about their own relative safety in front of him. The team itself is on the hook for this as well.

Jokes about the media aside, they’re people as well, who have co-workers and families and have had unnecessary exposure that they were not duly informed about.

ETA: Rodgers can claim he’s making a choice for himself, but he’s denied that choice to those people. He’s making decisions about their health for them without informing them first. That’s just wrong.

I agree but at most of the press conferences I’ve seen there is much more than 6’ between the media and the player behind the mics. It’s certainly a problem but a discrete incident of rule breaking should be handled differently then completely flouting of the rules.

For instance with the media if he tested negative the day of the press conference and was masked everywhere but the field and the press conference there is a much lower risk to the media than if he wasn’t actually tested and walked around in close contact with people maskless all day.

It’s still uninformed consent.

The risks are very low, but we don’t get a pass for putting people in danger without their consent because the risks are low. They needed to be told so they can judge for themselves.

Rodgers makes the point that he should be allowed to make his own decisions regarding his health and he has decided that other people should not be extended that same courtesy. That’s incredibly egotistical and hypocritical.

Qaron Rodgers…
