Looking back at his uncalled-for, vicious comments and the ugly threads he’s started in just the last few years, I’m going to say that when someone shows me who they are, I believe them. I take him at face value b/c he’s shown me who he is, plain as day.
I may not believe he deserves bad things happening to him but I won’t be sorry if they do; he’s made it clear the feeling is mutual for us bleeding heart libtards.
That hope will likely be unfulfilled, unfortunately. Right-wing ideology, period, has as one of its cornerstones the denial that negative external circumstances can and do suppress success (and the flip side of that - that success depends on positive external circumstances).
As far as the hurricane goes, I’m kinda disappointed we probably won’t get the remnants here in the northern part of the state, like we did with Bill in '15, Hermine in '10, etc. We would get some more much-needed rain, and cool relief from the searing summer heat. Maybe the forecast will change, or maybe further on down the line he’ll drift back off and head north rather than east or northeast.
All right, you convinced me; Mr. Clot is an idiot.
Any recipes? Maybe fish, I hear that it will soon be plentiful.
Edit: Oh, yes, there was a typo you all probably noticed: supported should be supporter.*
Houston is large, diverse & votes Democratic. (Which may be one thing that makes the OP grumpy; and what’s the point of Ignoring someone if other dopers keep quoting him?) South Texas, where the hurricane force winds will hit, is mostly Tejano & pretty Democratic as well.
The prediction for Harvey is weird. Most hurricanes barrel onshore & then head inland. The winds weaken quickly but rain can cause flooding pretty far inland. A front will keep Harvey from following that route. Instead, he will head back east along the coast, in the direction of Houston. So we probably will not have troubling winds–this far inland, especially. But we’re on the dirty side of the storm & rain is already beginning here. It may continue through next Wednesday. And the city has been known to flood…
Hope you make it out of this okay. Can’t even imagine what that storm will be like. 35 inches of rain? 12 feet of flood water? Terrible.
Come on people, you’re better than this. Political difference of opinion is no reason to wish someone ill fortune outside the SDMB. Isn’t “Rise Above Hate” a big liberal mantra? Lead by example and quit kicking Clothahump while he’s down.
Clothahump, after seeing the national news I wish you & your family well along with everyone else in the storm’s path.
The zone of extremely heavy rain 20"+ is moving east on every new update, and includes Houston. The city must be providing sand and sandbags. You should grab a bunch for your business. Wind won’t be a factor. Good luck!
This. I’m as disgusted by some of the things posted in this thread as I’ve been by any of Clothahump’s posts. You guys - you know who you are - should aim to be better.
Dang.
May the waters be held at bay, and you come out mostly dry, Clothahump and all other coastal Texans.
And of course, in the process of taking measures during the emergency, take care to avoid becoming a road-flooding casualty.
We can get back to our regularly scheduled mutual pissoff once the clean-up is done and everyone’s safe and sound.
Rub a cleaned fish (bone-in, head & tail intact) with olive oil, salt and pepper. Maybe stick a sprig of parsley or rosemary or thyme into the cavity. Place on your hot grill for 20 minutes with the cover down.
If it’s a good fresh fish, that’s all you need to do. Had one of those (a branzino) for dinner last night with some steamed green & yellow string beans and a tomato salad.
I have seen reports saying that some areas can reach more than 30 inches of rain during the weekend.
That is insane.

Stay safe, everyone in Texas.
[Current storm surge](WWA Summary for Storm Issued by HGX surge warning) notice from NHC (3 hours old at this point).
[Quote=National Hurricane Center]
- STORM SURGE
- LATEST LOCAL FORECAST: Life-threatening storm surge possible
- Peak Storm Surge Inundation: The potential for 6-9 feet
above ground somewhere within surge prone areas - Window of concern: Begins early Saturday morning

 6-9 feet of surge, and then 2-3 feet of rainfall? Dayum
Yeah, 1am landfall in a less sparsely populated part of the coast is going to create its own difficulties assuming power is lost in areas. But it’s that two to three days that Harvey chews its way up the coast like a big ol’ buzz saw dumping rain and causing swells that has them emptying all the islands.
I think you should contact Senator John Cornyn. Every single one of you fucking Texas Republicans are going to be the world’s greatest hypocrites as you line up like suckling pigs begging for federal aid.
I suggest more Jesus. Fuck Texas.
Assume that for that 2 - 3 days there will be no power. If you folks out there have Coleman or “hurricane” kerosene lamps, you’ll be using them. For food, eat the stuff in the fridge first before it can turn. Then eat the canned goods.
But above all, don’t try to be an internet macho man, making videos out in the storm. Stay inside away from the wind and the debris. And hopefully you’re all on relatively high ground. Keep all pets inside too.
If you’re friends with people who plan to evacuate, get permission to enter their home(s) while they’re gone and get their refrigerated food as well.
My relatives in Beaumont did that when they had to stay put through a hurricane. They ended up using neighbors’ food to feed clean-up crews.
Good idea.
I got ‘em covered on the prayin’ front…
Please, Lord, protect Texas, even Clothy.
And now, please send me some Benedictine & Brandy to wash that little taste of bile out of the back of my throat…
Oh, look! What’s that on the sideboard? Time for a wee dram…
I’m amazed. So far, I haven’t seen any pictures of idiots trying to surf in this nonsense. There’s usually one or two.
Corpus’ new mayor has said that he won’t make evacuation mandatory because he’s not going to risk the lives of his fire and police:
“Because our fire and police, they’re fathers and mothers, brothers, sisters, uncles. They’ve got relatives and they’ve got family, and we don’t want to put them in harm’s way because someone just wanted to stay.”
