ABC bows to PC. God I hate people sometimes...

I for one am outraged. I saw naked shoulder and had to pluck my eyes out.

Actually I was more offended that the Eagles won.

I heard this on the news last night, and that was my first thought.

Funny, though… I watched the game on Monday, tuning in about 5 minutes after kick-off, so I missed the whole thing!

At least one of those ABC stations refused to air Saving Private Ryan. Nice double standard there, guys!

Talk about prudish !!!
As I’ve stated here many times, John Ashcroft thought the nude statue required clothing. However, he had no qualms about letting his “friends” obtain a draft deferment for him because his job (teaching law in Missouri) was deemed “vital” to National Security and he avoided the Vietnam War. Now that’s obscene.

Okay, no more politics. About a year or two ago, some station (may have even been a cable station - but NOT premium cable) advertised it would show “The Godfather” uncut. Well sure enough, ALL the rough language was there, you got to see James Caan being shot about 100 times. However, the wedding night scene between Al Pacino and Simonetta Steffanelli which must contain all of 5 seconds of a topless woman, was “electronically obscured” around Ms Steffanelli’s bosom. Geez we are a nation of prudes.

Oh when I clicked on that sports link from posting #1, it goes to a Sports Illustrated site and did you notice the ad for Beefeater Gin? Yes, nothing like booze to epitomize the nobility of competitive sports!!!

“Mistake” ?!? … Exactly!

True, they’re owned by Disney and hence must be PC (Miramax notwithstanding). Yeah, I’m sure a few people called to complain. Yes, Janets nipple is perky. But ABC was cross-promoting a soap opera during a football game and is using this ‘apology’ in a cheap ‘ratings booster’ kind of way.

Maybe I’m overly skeptical, but I think anyone who views this ABC apology as anything less than a publicity stunt is being hoodwinked. Ignoring the handful of cranks who complained about a towel clad woman bearing her shoulder wouldn’t have generated any publicity at all.

I’m with tremorviolet on this one. I suspect that any of the initial complaints phoned in to the FCC were made by ABC staffers.

By the way, re: adultery – the character the woman plays on the show is divorced, so unless TO got married sometime and I missed it (entirely possible), the commercial doesn’t allude to adultry. Cheap sex, sure, but not adultry.

On the show, the only current adultry line is with the young gorgeous ex-model who’s having an adulterous affair with the gardener (who is in high school).

I swear, I watch it for the articles!

From King Kaufman:

I thought it was amusing and, I hasten to point out, not so much worse than most beer commercials (which is why I love beer commercials.) I wonder if the NFL had a bigger problem with the blatant self-promtion than with the near-naked lady…

What the…

Sometimes, only a  will do.

I have to agree with GorillaMan that this is not about PC.

In the PC world, breast are merely mammary glands, and our sisters should be able to walk with them freely exposed to nature’s goodness and swinging all the way to the ground, should we all be so unlucky. :stuck_out_tongue:

And there should be world peace.

I saw a woman bitching about this on TV. She then went back to the Super Bowl and how she was watching it with her 12 yo daughter and had to “explain it to her” when JJ slipped her nip. I just don’t get it, hadn’t her daughter ever seen a nipple? What is there to explain? And hell, you only saw it for about 1/2 second.

Am I the only one tired of hearing about this. What actually is the problem. Is it because its implied that a big black man man is about to bump uglies with miss blonde america. Or is it the fact that he made a man decision by deciding to roll around the the hay with with a woman instead rolling around in the grass with men. Or is it even the new hate TO topic. Either way all of you bitching just SHUT THE FUCK UP. I’ve seen worse on TRL. Oh, thats cable that donesn’t count you say. I distinctly remember watching watching Crocidile Dundee as a child and it was far worse thatn that MNF skit. Remeber the lead actress in that thong bent over bathing in the swamp. That was so hot and more racy than that and that was tv airing. This was a freaking family movie. WE didn’t any of this bitching. Please oh please I do not wanna hear another god damn thing about this. Actually if you’re gonna complain about a woman clad in a towel you don’t have enough testicular fortitude to even watch foot ball. Turn it to PBS you ASSHOLES.

I finally saw the spot on iFilm this morning. A few thoughts:

  1. Terrell Owens seemed to be the better actor.

  2. That’s Nicolette Sheridan? Eww. I expected someone… I don’t know… attractive.

  3. Word to whoever made the “left nothing to the imagination” crack. I imagined more than that when I was in the 3rd grade.

  4. I’d be most offended that my daughter* was exposed to some very stilted acting. If she saw that and asked to watch “Desperate Housewives” I’d say “Absolutely not young lady! Now go to your room and watch Memento again!”

*caveat: my daughter has not been born yet (March 7, 2005)

I’m offended that someone thinks that Nicolette Sheridan has a bad half.

It’s always amusing (in an annoyed sort of way) when I see an entertaining commercial aired only once or twice before getting pulled. Anyone remember the one with the family at a wake, and the widow is all distraught over the loss of her husband until she sees a Netflix envelope come through the mail slot? What the fuck was so offensive about that? Was it because the family was black?

No nipple, no butt, no bush. Sheesh. Tempest in a teapot.

I’m surprised no one has pointed out the " I’ve just got to have sex with you right now" look that Nicolette Sheridan put on right after she dropped the towel. That is the part that stirred my loins.

That is one good actress.

Some of you really have a misunderstanding of what PC means. The outrage over this ad is not from the PC crowd.

The racial difference didn’t enter my mind at all until I heard some men complaining that it stereotyped the Black male.

It seemed an unusual way to open a football game, but if ABC wants to buck the FCC and their prudishness, more power to them.

As for the father who didn’t want to explain to his nine year old son, it is time that his son started asking questions. He’s lucky that his son asked him. He doesn’t have to go into a lot of detail.

Am I the only one annoyed that the article links to this Terrel bloke but not Niccollette? They could at least have put a link to the video so I can see what all the fuss is about, sheesh.

CBS, at least, knows that sort of thing is inappropriate until halftime.

No wonder Europe thinks we’re so pathetic.
