ABC's True Beauty

Okay, I’m not (too) embarrassed to still be watching this –

CJ squeaks through again on the strength of his nice-guy persona. What a weird schizo combination he is, though – the “coaching” he was doing during the photo shoot was obviously obnoxious and unhelpful – and no one will ever forget the “lying about charity” thing last week. His saving-grace behavior is all happening at the interstices of the challenges – when he’s “playing,” he leaves (what seems to be) his true personality out of it.

Since this week started with him explaining how he managed to not get booted, and since he made it through again, it’s got to occur to some of these folks that there might be something besides looks being judged here – do you think anyone’s going to make an effort to change his or her behavior?

I caught the last few minutes of the past two episodes, when C.J. was up against it. It sure seems like he knows what’s going on. Both times he talked about inner beauty/true beauty. And he for sure knows about that final test, after watching the film of the biker who crashed. So he knew he should pick up the water bottle. Lame test though – people don’t toss bottles of water across the street.

When are contestants gonna figure out that “I’ve worked so hard – I deserve this!” isn’t a good defense?

No he doesn’t – the person leaving is the only one to see any footage, and that is after the person who’s not leaving, uh, leaves.

Woopsy. I guess I need to watch a little closer.

Is the show worth watching for the whole hour? The last few minutes seem to cover the highlights, but I hate to miss people being evil.

Don’t ask me – I’m a total slut for a good reality show, so I enjoy the whole hour.

I dropped out on this episode. The “compassion” test was just too stupid for me this time. I couldn’t take anymore of that unprofessional chick having a fight with her boyfriend via cell phone. That warrants compassion? I think that warrants a “Girlfriend, pull yourself together and turn off your cell phone before you get yourself fired.” If they wanted to do it right, they should have had the boyfriend in a car wreck, or one of her parents at death’s door in the hospital, something of a magnitude that would excuse her unprofessional behavior.

I only watched it 'cause my wife made me!

Yeah.

Am I the only person still watching, or just the only person willing to admit I’m still watching?

Chelsea, Chelsea, Chelsea – oh ye of the odd, odd expressions. Not as gorgeous as you think you are – rather a nasty bitch (and no, we’re not all like that sometimes) – and pretty freaking stupid. Glad to see you go.

Nope, you’re not the only one still watching.

Nekkid Ray cracks me up.

I was impressed with him last night. He was incredibly patient and cooperative with Chelsea, even though he dislikes her. (The part where he was rolling his eyes when she was behind his back – getting something out of a pack? – telling him not to roll his eyes at her… I laughed.)

Chelsea was entertaining, at least. I’m not invested enough in any of these other folks to watch. Anyone left has had at least one star-studded tool moment, so IMHO not one of them deserves the title.

It got bumped because of Obama’s press conference: this week it will air Tuesday at 10.

Is ten days later too zombified? It certainly doesn’t merit a new separate thread.

I watched the whole season to date in two batches online. I’m worried for my immortal soul.

What I’d really like to see is hidden camera footage of what the judges say about eachother when one is out of the room. I’ve seen a few eyes rolling.

I think the producers are a little disappointed that Cheryl is as thoroughly vacuous as she is. I love seeing her and Nole standing next to each other though.

This is a stupid, stupid show – and I haven’t missed an episode.

What, no throngs of fans celebrating Julia’s coronation?

Good episode. The photo shoot was just bizarre – Billy’s breathing thing, and the results of his picture – ugh. Not sure he deserved third place – Joel’s self-absorption was way more out of control than his.

And I’d realized that Julia had never been to the Hall of Beauty, but not that she’d never won a challenge. (Given how bogus some of the challenges were, I don’t know how significant it was.) And I definitely didn’t realized that she’d actually passed all of the secret tests.

All in all, a nice girl, albeit shallow, and I was good with her winning.

Do you think they’ll try to figure out a way to do another season? Or is this like Joe Millionaire, a one-time-only twist on the genre?

And why do I feel like a fallen tree in a distant forest?

I can’t believe that Twickster and I were the only two that watched this slop last night. I really think that Billy should have won, although I do have a problem with a 33 yr old man still going by the name Billy. Joel is such a conceited, self centered, pompous,worthless,…(2 hours worth of insults later), piece of fecal matter. Julia is… is …is… yery pretty but nothing spectacular. I will say the contestants and judges did do a lot to uphold the stereotypes of “beautiful” people that many people have.

Loved every minute of the show-I just love watching people being assholes.

Not only did I watch it, but I DVR’d it while I was out so I could watch it when I got home. This show really didn’t deserve the extra effort, but I got sucked in early and didn’t want to miss the finale.

I don’t think anyone in the house was very beautiful, inside or out. I thought Billy was going to win but wasn’t surprised Julia was given the top prize. Surprised that Billy was third, though.

Yeah, it isn’t at all clear to me why Joel came in ahead of Billy – Joel was way more of an asshole than Billy ever could be. Billy might fail to be courteous when he was preoccupied with his pecs, but Joel was actively rude to people in a way Billy wasn’t.

Agree that Julia is nothing more than a very pretty girl – but she did pass all the various “inner beauty” tests, however bogus they were, and seem to be a nice person, and that alone singled her out in that house. Whether she’s “really” nice or not – at least she makes the effort to appear that way.
