Abe Vigoda, RIP

The Chief of the Waponi has quaffed his last orange soda. The tribe may now cast him into the volcano.

He was only 68 when he played 35 year old John Travolta’s senile grandfather in Look Who’s Talking. That was a decade after playing the retiree Fish.

Someone elsewhere claimed that Vigoda in The Godfather was 3 years younger than Brad Pitt is now. I haven’t had a chance to verify that. Can it be true?? He always seemed ancient. RIP

Vigoda was born in 1921, and Godfather came out in 1972, making him 51 at the time.

Brad Pitt was born in 1963. He’s 52.

So, not quite yet.

Ironic that Abe Vigoda used to be the poster boy for doing this…

Conan did a nice tribute to Abe on his show last night. (Jan 26.) They showed a few clips from his old bits on Late Night. I had forgotten about the majestic beauty of a total vigodal eclipse.

Antenna TV is running a Barney Miller marathon on Sunday in tribute to Vigoda.

Whoops! Scratch that. The tribute’s on Saturday.

My favorite part was his reunion with Robert Duvall in the “For old time’s sake” scene.

I find his death hard to believe.

But RIP, Abe, just in case. :frowning:
