ABNORMALLY fast heartbeat/tachycardia? There is a cure

Does anyone on here suffer from tachycardia?
SVT?

In case anyone is familiar with this particular problem,
there is now a CURE. Actually in my opinion, it is more like a miracle.

FIRST and FOREMOST this surgery is NOT for everyone, certain types of tachycardia CAN be cured, but must first be diagnosed properly by a cardiologist/electrophysiologist.
The surgery is mainly for persons diagnosed with
SVT or PAT (Supra Ventricular Tachycardia)
The surgery is called Ablation.
The surgery should only be performed by an EXPERIENCED…let me repeat EXPERIENCED cardiologist/electro-physiologist.
These physicians -electro-physiologist specialize in the
electrical areas of the heart.
From my experience, I had an “electrical” problem…not a “heart” problem.
I suffered though the tachycardia episodes for years, on
average 214 -240 BPM (beats per minute). They came without warning, day or night but were becoming more frequent. Most of the time I had to go to the ER, there they would give me medicine to STOP the heart, and allow it to return to it’s normal rhythm. NOT FUN…

The surgery was sooooo simple it was unbelieveable.
I was awake during the surgery, catherters were inserted
into the groin area, radio waves were used to ablate/remove the offending tissue that caused the tachycardia and I went home the same day. Two days later I was back to my normal routine.
The catherter insertion area was so small, there isnt even a scar! How cool is that?!! The Dr. said the surgery was a success.

I have talked with several people who have had the surgery
and they all report complete success too.

From what I was told this problem is extremely prevalent and people are suffering needlessly, because this surgery is relatively new, not many people know about it yet.
My Dr. said he had performed over 500 of these Ablations.

So just in case there are people who havent heard about
this surgery/cure ASK YOUR DOCTOR if you would be a candidate… Good luck!!
I’ll be happy to answer any questions concerning MY surgery
but serious medical questions
and answers can only be
answered by your doctor.
Has anyone else out there had or know of anyone that had this surgery?

Interesting post. I was diagnosed with PAT in 1992, but apparently mine was very minor. The doc told me to lay off caffeine (I was working the graveyard shift, and my favorite beverage is Coke – you do the math), and I did, and I haven’t had a problem since. I’d done some research on it and was of the understanding that PAT was relatively harmless. But your story helps explain why I was once turned down for health insurance because of this one-time (for me, anyway), “harmless” problem.

Yes, PAT (Paroxsmal Atrial Tachycardia)
was my orignal diagnosis about 10 years ago too.

I have since learned that the two, SVT and PAT
are simliar and are often confused by EKG techs and Dr.s
but that SVT is usually the diagnosis.

I was also told the condition was a “benign phenomenon”
and that it was relatively harmless. Although terribly frightening as the years wore on.
I was also told not to let it go for more than an hour.
Dont you know those were VERY LONG hours!
One Dr. told me 10 years ago that the episodes ususally start becoming more frequent over time and dang if she wasnt right!!
From what I understand caffeine and smoking may activate the episodes
but are not the cause. I never do anything with caffiene in it… and stress never played apart in mine either, since the episodes would happen when I was perfectly happy. They really dont know what causes it, but with my experience it seemed to occur after bending over, although not everytime, it was also beginning to wake me up in the middle of the night.
They were starting to happen once a month/plus, so it was starting to interfere with my daily life.
I’m now in the process of fighting with my insurance company ( the bastards) over the surgery.
You would think they would be happy to pay, since this is a cure and they wont ever again have to pay for the ER visits
for the next 50 years at $1,000.00 a pop.
BUt if it does start happening more often, at least you know something can be done.
The relief and freedom from never having this happen again
is wonderful and I’m extremely thankful the surgery is available.

Oh, I mentioned the surgery to my neighbor and she told me her husband had been having these tachy episodes off and on for the last couple of years too!! Small world…

I’m glad you’re doing well. This is not a “General Question” and this MB is probably not the place for medical testimonials, so I’m closing this. - Jill
