He’s called it off. Supposedly the Imam responsible for the “Ground Zero Mosque” has agreed to not build there if Jones calls off his Koran burning. Jones will be meeting with him on Saturday.
And now they’re saying the Imam is denying it. I forgot that news reporters long ago stopped checking sources before reporting something.
But it still appears that Jones has cancelled the book burning because they actually showed him saying this on the news.
I still think the funniest part of this whole thing is the name of his church - The Dove World Outreach Center. Who the hell taught this guy his Christianity?

Actually, he hasn’t agreed to anything. The head of the Central Florida Islamic Society agreed to take Jones to New York to meet Raif and to use his own influence to have the MCC moved.
Remind me what he’s actually done wrong, again? Threatening to do something offensive? Wake me up when he goes through with it. You know that 24-hour news cycle that Dopers like to bitch about? Well it’s threads like these that cause that.
One guy wants to build a mosque and that offends people. Another guy wants to burn some books and that offends people. For some reason, you guys are picking sides. I don’t see any criteria here for one guy being worse than the other guy.
What’s more reasonable to take offense to? A building tangientially supporting an idea that killed people like you, or the burning of a book that you really like? Both sound pretty ridiculous to me.

Burning books, or threatening to, has struck a chord with people since 10 May 1933.
One of the best ideas I’ve seen is for everyone to send that church copies of the Bible… in Arabic.

But that doesn’t address what I said. Why are Dopers picking sides? It’s like two idiots yelling at each other at a stop light.
