About Scott Rogo murder case

Both skeptics and true believers probably remember author Scott Rogo, who wrote quite a number of “New Age” and “psychic study” type paperbacks. As I recall, he was found murdered in his own home in Southern California in, I think, the mid-80’s. I (very vaguely) remember the suggestion of a sexual pickup gone bad, a kitchen door wide open, and a perpetrator still at large. Anyone happen to know the sequel?

From the deafening Google silence that surrounds his demise (only a couple of mentions that he was “murdered”, and that’s it), and from the blank page under Penguin Books’ “biography” page for him–

–I’m assuming that either (a) it was extremely messy and it’s being covered up, or (b) it was extremely routine, was solved quickly, or perhaps not solved, and anyway nobody cares.

I suspect that he’s not on the Web because people don’t like to think about their paranormal research heroes picking up boys in bars and bringing them home and doing the nasty and getting themselves killed.

Out of 34 books listed on Amazon.com, only one is still in print (Leaving the Body : A Complete Guide to Astral Projection), four more are “limited availability”, and the rest are out of print.

And, these folks don’t seem to think he’s dead.

But then, it’s a Near Death Experience website.

You mean there really is such a thing as information not available on the Net? …So if I really do want my curiosity satisfied and don’t care to go to a psychic detective or seance-- suggestions? Can an ordinary guy just call up the police involved (Northridge, maybe?) and ask the status of an old case?

Hey, Daddy fixed my link! Thaaaank you, Daddy. Now, when are you gonna fix my bicycle, huh?

In my experience, cops tend to be touchy and suspicious when folks call up and ask innocently, “Hey, like, didja ever catch the guy that offed Scott Rogo?” A better bet might be to talk to the local newspaper that covered the case, and ask to see their morgue (it’s usually on microfiche, and you sometimes have to pay a fee to use it.)

Here are all the articles that turned up on ProQuest Newspapers, starting with reports of his death.

  5. Parapsychologist Stabbed to Death in Northridge Home; Connelly, Michael; Oliver, Myrna; The Los Angeles Times, Los Angeles, Calif.; Aug 18, 1990; Record edition; pg. B3

When I heard he died I wondered if he would come back through a medium or if there are any reports of anybody who contacted him from beyond the veil? John Edward or James Prague might have heard from him.

If he was such an expert on the paranormal, why didn’t he use his skills to predict the mortal danger he was in?

Perhaps he was no better than the clairvoyant who laced a lost property notice when she misplaced her crystal ball…

I know you were joking, Dvous, but for the record…and out of respect for the living-impaired…Rogo wrote about psi stuff, etc., but didn’t claim he had any such abilities himself. Overall, he was one of the saner, more scientific writers on the subject; though definitely a popularizer and believer. I think I read somewhere that he was in his teens when he got started.
