Ok, I know that the band Tavares recorded the song “More than a Woman” for the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack… but I have a specific question about the band…
can anyone tell me all the people who were and have been in Tavares? I heard they had two white people in the band before… someone playing lead guitar, and someone in the horn section… I’ve also heard the band formed in New Bedford, Massachusetts. Can anybody figure this out?
oh, one more thing, I guess before they used to be called “Chubby and the Turnpikes”… 
Looks like they were brothers with the last name of Tavares..
Now as for their backup band…can’t find anything on them.
According to the All Music Guide, they did indeed come from New Bedford.
As far as members, it looks like they used studio musicians for their albums. Larry Carlton was listed for one; he’s white. The AMG does have a listing, but it’s clear that, other than the brothers, there was no set lineup.

To me, Tavares was the Greatest Band that was ever assembled. I can still remember when their Hit song “Heaven Must be Missing an Angel” came out back in 1976! That is one song I believe I can listen to forever and never get tired of it…ever. All throughout High School whenever I was either bored or depressed, that song ** ALWAYS** managed to cheer me up…always
I can even remember back in the Army (in 1985) when we were all being boo’ed and pelted with rocks by Anti-American Demonstrators in Frankfurt Germany I heard that song. We were being boo’ed because Several surviving members of the Origional German SS had gathered for a reunion down in Bittsburg, and our fearless leader Ronald Reagan took it upon himself to come over and attended it as their “Guest of Honor” therby embarrasing not only himself but the entire country as well. Right after we were all called back into the barracks, by either Coincidence or Miracle, AFN played this song on the radio just at the point where I just about to completely lose it…I don’t know why it is but that song always tend to make me feel better afterwards… God I love that song
xash, I know the forum rules well. I asked “Who was in the band Tavares?” it was a factual straightforward question… yes it’s in the subject of music, but it’s not an opinion question. The cafe society has always appeared to be a “What’s your opinion on…” forum, while the main one is a “Here’s a question that can only have one answer” forum. So, I don’t feel I posted in the wrong area.
