About the Pope?

It seems to switch back and forth by generations. About the time boys begin buying their own underwear, about when they become adolescents, most seem to want to do the opposite of what their father & his generation did. So the style switches around.

As a baby-boomer, boxers were ‘what old men wore’, so I wore briefs. Now, young millennials think that of briefs, so they wear boxers. And there’s a group of compromisers who wear boxer-briefs.

So what wears Pope under the long skirt? I believe applies the same as for the Scotsmen. The future of Vatican. (God have mercy on my lost Catholic soul). Well, at least at some point in history that was true.

Actually, there is a factual answer to this:

According to WWD, the Pope wears the same thing as most other men.

Depends. My dad and my maternal grandfather wore thighty-whiteys, but they were from Spain, where Abanderado sold those by the truckful for decades before those fancy colorful foreign things made a dent in the market.

We actually refer to both tighty-whiteys and wife-beater shirts as Abanderados, like the brand (Abanderados for the lower half, camiseta de Abanderado for the upper).
