Absolute Power (UK Radio) and Big Brother (UK TV)

I’m hoping a UK Doper can fill me in here.

I just listened to an episode of “Absolute Power”, the BBC radio series via their Listen Again service here .

In the current episode, the PR firm represents a contestant from the UK show “Big Brother”. It sounds like they’re calling her “Toggle”. I was wondering if that’s a real person, or if it’s a character they made up for the show.

I tried googling, but turned up nothing…

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Just listened to a bit of the episode (difficult to find!), it is a made-up name. Some of the contestants in recent years have had stupid names/nicknames, and “Toggle” is a pastiche of this. I’m trying to remember the one whose name most closely resembles Toggle, but can’t remember, although in the past there was a Kitten, and I think there’s one in the current series called Spiral.

Bubble! That’s who I was thinking of. Idiot contestant with stupid nickname.

Thanks, jjimm. I kind of guessed it was made up, but I felt I might have been missing a joke…

Thanks,

We are getting Absolute Power here in Australia as a TV series. Are you listening to the sound track of that, or have they done a radio series as well?

What a sad world it would be without British humour!

Like many British comedy series such as “Little Britain”, “Have I Got News for You” (as “The News Quiz”) and “Deadringers”, “Absolute Power” started out as a radio programme and then made the move to BBC 2 (TV).

Radio 4 is a great place to spot the next big thing in BBC comedy before it hits TV, their 6.30pm weekday comedy spot is nearly always worth listening to.

Two long running series I wish would make the jump are Punt & Dennis’ “The Now Show”, and Marcus Brigstocke’s “The Museum of Everything” but I don’t see that happening to either of them anytime soon.

**Szlater **- Thanks heaps. I had no idea. Now to find the time to listen to them all! We’re getting Extras soon. Hope it is as good as The Office!
