Accessible Twitter Celebrities

Who are some celebrities who routinely responds to fans on Twitter?

So far I’ve asked:

@ChrisKattan if he’s coming back to #TheMiddle- no response

@MissMayim (Mayim Bialik) if #TheBigBangTheory was going to work her hand injuries into the show or if they were going to just hide them through clever editing - no response, though seeing the show answered my questions

…and a handful of other career-related mundane questions to celebrities (nothing personal or private). I’ve never gotten a response.

Who are some celebrities that I could follow on Twitter who actually be likely to respond to me?

I don’t follow him (or even watch the show), but I know Anderson Cooper does. I’ve seen him respond to both positive and negative tweets*, my sister sent him a tweet about how good one of his shows was and he thanked her (and it wasn’t just “thanks” and was a nice, well thought out sentence) and a few months later she sent him another tweet and happened to mention that it was her birthday and he recorded video that was about minute or so long just for her.

You want a response, I’d start with him.

*The responses to the negative tweets tend to play on the fact that the tweeter usually doesn’t know what the hell they’re talking about.

I’ve gotten a reply from Rainn Wilson. I think the trick is mentioning the movie “The Rocker.”

I’ve had a lot of interactions with lesser known celebs like comedians (Chris Hardwick, Doug Benson, Paul F. Tompkins) and chefs (Art Smith, Rick Bayless.)

Aim lower perhaps? Though not sure how you could aim lower than Kattan. Also, pay attention to what kinds of tweets they usually will respond to and go from there (not kidding about “The Rocker” earlier.)

I’ve been retweeted by both Stephen Fry and Neil Gaiman. In both cases, it was because I’d sent them a clarification that a news story they’d just linked to was an urban legend or… shall we say, less than true.

@RussellCrowe can be quite chatty, when the mood takes him. Quite often he just posts about sport, or his exercise regime, but on occasion, I suspect after a beer or two, he’ll reply to loads of people. He Rted a photo I took once, so that makes him fine in my book, and he remains the only really famous person I follow. Well, I follow Fry too, but that seems compulsory on Twitter.

@NathanFillion and @wilw (Wil Wheaton) are both friendly and responsive. Ditto @feliciaday.

Jeff Probst used to live-tweet during Survivor, passing out buffs to the best questions.

He never answered me, but answered tons of people.

@SteveMartinToGo laughed at a joke I tweeted at him in response to one of his tweets.

a friend of mine told me Roseanne responded to her. and this while she was busy running for president! :stuck_out_tongue:

Daniel Tosh, while I’m sure he gets hundreds of tweets, tends to put a handful of them on the air and respond to them that way.

@PennJillette replied to one of my tweets once. And @wilw (Wil Wheaton) is famously interactive with his fans on Twitter. (On preview, I see he was already mentioned.)

They Might Be Giants @tmbg are pretty interactive too.

I read a Fry tweet where he was looking for the origin of a word. I googled it and found a likely answer, but I figured he would have already found that, himself, so I didn’t reply.

Bruce Boxleitner’s great! Seems like a really nice guy-tweets birthday wishes when requested.

Craig Ferguson (@CraigyFerg) answers tweets and e-mails every night on air (The Late Late Show), though you’re obviously going to get a sarcastic or facetious response. Not sure how much he actually responds via Twitter itself.

Andy Partridge of XTC (@XTCfans) often replies to tweets (he’s replied to a couple of mine).

@clarkgregg, Agent Coulson from the Avengers and Iron Man movies, is another birthday wishes tweeter, who also RTs fan-works his followers share with him.

That’s what I do. I don’t follow too many high profile celebs, and I don’t expect a reply from anyone as popular as them as they get streams of tweets coming at them like a torrent; Hundreds a minute for some (Simon Pegg, for example).

So I am very happy when I have gotten responses from less well known people like Robert Llewellyn (Kryten from Red Dwarf), Stephen Mangan (from Episodes), Andrew Stanton (from Pixar), Tim Omundson (from Psych), Hugh Bonneville (from Downton Abbey), and Adam Hughes (popular comic book cover artist).

UPDATE: @ChrisKattan was on last night, and he responded to me! Unfortunately, he seemed a little exasperated by my [and apparently other fans’] questions.

Also, last night @EricStonestreet was blowing up my twitter feed with college football insights. He responded to a few fans who posted things he thought were interesting.

Bill Lawrence (creator of Scrubs) responded to me a few times. A couple of TV reviewers that I follow also have responded but not sure if they qualify as celebrities.

I have got some responses from a few golfers (male and female), I even gave one my own cure for hiccups and she was ecstatic that she finally made her go away. She offered me tickets to a LPGA tournament.

{The hiccup cure is beat on your chest and count to 10 in French.}
