I’ve met a lot of people like her over the years. They weren’t all Christians, though many of them were. Some of them held political views or, sadly, racist views and defended them in the same way. It’s not the ignorance that is so offensive. I am ignorant about many things. It’s the willful ignorance that is infuriating. You’re fighting the good fight with her, Siege, and that is a noble but frustrating effort.

I believe you when you say that she really doesn’t believe that she is lying. As I said, I have met quite a few people like her. Nevertheless, the attempt to change her name in order to deceive us into thinking that she is someone else would have blown up in her face in a huge way. It’s probably better that it was pointed out if and when she returns.

She pulls some of the same stunts there when she gets called on her lies and false accusations. The only difference is that there’s a number of folks there who want to believe those and think that because she’s “such a good Christian,” then she’s automatically right and those she’s lied about aren’t Christian and thus are automatically wrong.

I really must disagree with you about her knowledge of her falsehoods. There is abundant proof that she has done so knowingly. THAT is why I demand an apology.

IIRC, a good number of posters started out with gently correcting her when she first posted incorrect assertions in GD. A number of posters, including me, have provided her with good advice on how not to inadvertently tell lies. One of my most recent comments to her was about how at least one university (the one I attend) views falsely stating that one has cited a primary source–even provided the link to the school’s “academic honesty” site! Guin advised her, very directly, on how to be honest. Others have told her, with citations from impartial sources, that have refuted her parrottings. All of it ignored, save as an excuse to tell herself she’s a martyr. She’s even told us all that we, and those cited sources, are really telling lies, that we & they are keeping the truth secret.

She apologizes and it’s all forgiven. She apologizes and I’ll be one of her biggest helpers here. Until then, I believe hajario’s last two sentences above sum up the situation perfectly.

Haj & Desmo: I will stipulate that I shouldn’t have said “shove it” above. Other than that, I don’t think I’m out of line here at all.

I agree with you, Monty, re: lies. I guess my post was imcomplete on the matter, but as it is secondary (to me) to H4e eventually becoming educated and trusting enough to be able to talk about Catholicism and Mormonism (for example) without feeling that saying “Catholicism is a valid form of Christianity” is a lie (because her preacher told her so, or something like that).

I continue to struggle with the idea that, after being told by people she respects that she is incorrect about certain things, she is unable or unwilling to accept them. We aren’t talking about subatomic particle physics here, Siege, and she knows that, for all the reduction of the Bible she’s done to say “But it isn’t about love! It’s about rules and icky stuff like that!”

It is my impression that she sees no need to change how she approaches this place nor what she believes, because the most important person on this MB (in her opinion), by far, is herself, and she hasn’t hurt herself. If she were banned, my thinking is that she would feel it an egregious error on the administration’s part and those on that other MB (posted twice to “my” thread, btw) would console her and … well, other stuff, but the admins and mods frown upon the discussion of merits or demerits of other boards.

Until it is imperative to her being, or to one she values as much as herself, I do not believe she wil put forth the effort necessary to effect a substantive change in herself. Her temp-banning means only that she is able to read and fume (if she is reading this MB/thread). It does nothing to calm her sensibilities nor educate her if she is unable to be active in the learning process any more than it is possible to gain a deep understanding of science without doing field work, so to speak.

I hope I am wrong. I do not believe I am, but I hope I am. H4e is one of the most obstinate people I have met, and if someone were able to teach her actual fact, instead of “Yes, jesus hates him! Yes, jesus hates him! Yes, jesus hates him! My preacher told me so!”, she would be a far more useful witnesser of Christ’s. As it is she has driven people on this MB away from God. Fortunately others were there to catch them before they fell and hit their heads on something sharp:)
