Acid Casualties

Towards the end of the 60’s there were a few famous and near famous artists that suffered meltdowns most probably influenced to a large extent by the person’s prodigous LSD habit.
Syd Barrett (Pink Floyd)
Roky Erickson (13th Floor Elevators)
and
Skip Spence (Moby Grape)

Since that time, I haven’t really noticed others suffering specifically from LSD related problems… sure, others (Mariah Carey, for instance) have snapped, but I can’t think of any recent “acid casualties”… well maybe Dan Treacy (Television Personalities). I’m sure muscians haven’t stopped taking acid, and in some cases lots of it, so any ideas why there aren’t more freakouts? Or have I just not been paying attention?

Was Dan Treacy ever found? I heard recently that he disappeared a few years ago.

I haven’t heard of Dan Treacy being found. Interesting side note though: TVP had a song called “I Know Where Syd Barrett Lives”, and more recently The Mr. T Experience put out a song called “I Know Where Dan Treacy Lives”… although I think they’re lying.

“I Know Where Syd Barrett Lives” is actually the song that got me into the band. I’m a big fan of Mr. Barrett’s (although not of post-Syd Pink Floyd), and when I heard the TVP’s song, I fell in love with them too, as you can see from my signature.

I haven’t heard of the song by the Mr. T Experience, I’ll have to check it out. It’s sad enough that Syd Barrett had to go mad, but at least he’s safe at home with his family and his art.

I just found this article URL=http://www.newsreview.com/issues/chico/2002-08-22/shelfmusic2.asp]here from August 2002. It’s a review of the new compilation Fashion Conscious (the Little Teddy Years), and in the last paragraph, it mentions that Dan Treacy is home and alive.

Sorry about the coding. The review is here.
