Now that I’ve just accepted this job offer, I’m going to sit here and go thoroughly insane while the full reality of it sinks in. Thank you.
I lived there for a year. Good luck. Wasn’t my favorite city, but wasn’t my least favorite either. You know where you’ll be living yet? If I may suggest- avoid Hendersonville and Gallatin if you are going to be driving downtown.
How far will you have to move, drewbert? Congrats on the new job, BTW.
Thanks AudreyK. I’m moving from the Raleigh, NC area. So it’s not like it’s halfway across the country, but still significant. I’ve never moved on my own before so it’s all a little bewildering so far. Too much to think about.
I’ll be living near downtown (see my “Don’t have a car, don’t wanna car” thread), but I don’t have an actual place lined up. I’ve got a month. Eeeeeek!
drewbert - I live in Nashville. Believe me when I say you’re going to need a car. I didn’t learn to drive until I was 24 and moved here. The mass transit is laughable. It’s not a bad town, I moved from Michigan, Minnesota and Ohio before I landed here. Very little winter is nice. Long hot summers aren’t. The people are generally friendly, sometimes too friendly. I was more comfortable with the Minnesotans reserve. I hope you enjoy it.

Good luck, drewbert. I’ve never moved on my own either, and the thought of doing so is both exciting and frightening as hell. Hopefully, it’s a matter of finding a place and making it feel homey, and then everything slides into place after that.
I work in Nashville.
Try living in Rutherford county. Taxes & apartment costs are much lower. So are water rates. Try the bedroom communities of Laverne, Smyrna, or Murfreesboro.
Are you with Dell computers?
Well, someday I might be persuaded to get a car out of necessity, but between now and the end of next month it ain’t gonna happen, so I’m gonna stick close to downtown, at least for the time being.
Not with Dell - actually I’ll be at the Cumberland Science Museum…
I assume you’ll be renting- don’t know how much you are looking to pay, and don’t want to know. You will pay more for living downtown though. The company I rent through just opened a new property in downtown Nashville though- they are nice properties, great amenities, even though they tend to be a little expensive, especially here in Atlanta. Their site is http://www/postproperties.com . Excellent maintenance and beautiful apartments. I have never had a problem last more than about 2 hours. And I haven’t had many problems at all. Good luck and congrats!
Ok- since I can’t get it to let me edit that(argh, sorry y’all) here is the correct link
And I previewed it and everything.
drewbert - Ohh! I love the Cumberland Science Museum! What a great place. I’ve had a membership there often, and took my nieces and nephew. I hope you love your new job, and I hope you like Nashville. I live, as Bosda suggested to you, in Rutherford County. My company, Ingram, has been a longtime supporter of the Cumberland Science museum.
