Hmmm… this is really “meta” or something. Those were both funny and I appreciate the humor but those posts illustrate my conundrum perfectly. I have no idea what you guys posted; what you meant to say!
Maybe you’re just pulling my leg and those acronyms meant nothing. Fair enough, but if they actually stood for something, I’m curious to know what it is!

If there was any new jokeronym I shoulda recognized, it was that one. I blame the fact you wrote in lower case; yeah, that’s it. “iwbthalf” looks waay different than IWBTHALF.

One of the boards quirks is that it’ll turn to lower case any post/title that you write in ALLCAPS, which is probably why Diceman’s is lower case too.
And the alternative, GIYF (Google Is Your Friend).
It’s fun and all to make up wacky acronyms in this thread, but doesn’t anybody other than me have a problem understanding “non-ordinary” acronyms in SDMB posts?
I guess for some it can be entertaining to try to figure out what some odd acronym means but for me it gets really old looking them up on Google just to find that too often, it’s apparently not in common internet usage i.e-- a total mystery.
Of course, I could just be far more clueless than I thought. :eek:
I’m sorry–I wish I had some examples of that I could cite but I don’t. Actually, I’ve been intending to start a thread about this but haven’t gotten around to it. If I had ever got off my butt and done that, there would have been at least one example in it! (the one that was currently irking me).

Maybe we should have a Sticky of commonly used acronyms on the SDMB. If the acronym you intend to use isn’t on the list then don’t use it!
I thought of a new one, that we could definitely use around here:
DTMB: Don’t Taze Me, Bro (or Babe). A response for when someone has gotten into a snit over an innocuous comment.

None of the acronyms in Dewey Finn’s link are SDMB-specific; AFAIK they’re all pretty universal across the 'net.
To be sure the non-acronyms are pretty SDMB specific, such as “Hi Opal”. But that’s not what you’re concerned about.
If you could come up with any example of a post with acronyms you don’t understand that would really help us comprehend the problem only you seem to be having.
We’d like to help; really we would.
