Acronyms we really need on the SDMB

We all know the “standard” abbreviations, like IOW (In Other Words), IMHO (In My Humble Opinion), IANAL (I Am Not A Lawyer), and YMMV (Your Milage May Vary). It occurs to me that there are some other situations that pop up often enough on the Dope that we really could use acronyms for them. To start off with:

SADL: See A Damn Lawyer. You’ve seen those threads (The most recent one being “Crap, My Tenant Died”) where the person really needs to hire an actual lawyer, not solicit advice from random people on an internet message board.

SADD: See A Damn Doctor. Same as above, except concerning medical advice.

Any other suggestions for acronyms/abbreviations that would be especially helpful on the SDMB?

Dang, I thought this thread was going to be about anagrams, like calling the board “BDSM” instead of “SDMB”.

You might want to ask a moderator to edit that.

RTFM-Read The Fucking Manual

VTCDW-Visit The Company’s Damn Website (Didn’t post it but it came to mind in the “Does this eating place take credit cards?” thread. )

JGIA – Just Google It Already. Sometimes if you copy and paste the thread title or the entire OP to a Google search box, the answer will be right there. Sometimes on the first page. Sometimes in the very first search result.

Here’s one that I think should be a standard abbreviation, here and everywhere:

BSDL: Bull-Shit, Doubletalk, and Lies.

There’s plenty to go around – Especially in giving “relationship” advice, whether on-line or IRL. It’s 99.99999% BSDL!

ETA: P.S.: I up-vote SADL and SADD as well!

RBDD:
Rio, by Duran Duran

IWTBHALF (I wish this board had a ‘Like’ function)

NSTRH–No shit; this really happened. Heard often at the beginnings of “There I was” type stories.

ATIMPIHAAELAWH

{And Then Iron Man Pooped In His Armour And Everyone Laughed And Went Home}

Used for pointless, rambling and puerile stories such as a 10 year old might tell.

DBSFS - Don’t be so fucking stupid

IADGTTBDHASLF: It’s a damn good thing the board doesn’t have a stupid ‘like’ function.

IZJH – insert zombie joke here

IRQGATSIY
(In Russia, quarry goes and throws shit in YOU!)

DFTH (Don’t fight the hypothetical)

Thread title edited to be “Acronyms” instead of “Anagrams.”

I’d like “NTA” for “Not this again.” to gain ground. Unfortunately, “NTA” already means “Nothing to add.” on boards.

How about ONNTA then? Oh NOES, Not This/That Again.

I think we need less acronyms, not more. I often read a thread where someone has written a post that includes some random jumble of letters ans I have no idea what it means.

I think I am fairly well-read internet-wise and I’m up on a decent number of acronyms “kids use these days”. And, I know most of the SDMB tried-and-true acronyms like: “IANAL” and “YMMV” but sometimes people just SUWTMTS and IMANTM ("shorten up what they mean to say"and “it means absolutely nothing to me”). That really bugs me.

I understand that people sometimes post from a smart-phone and that typing can be a pain, but if you can’t spell out what you are saying so that others know what you mean then what you’ve written has little value.

Other times folks are using acronyms that may be well known among their circle of friends but no one else. It’s like using cryptic jargon that’s unique to a particular occupation and expecting everyone else to know what you mean.

There’s a reason the SDMB doesn’t allow posts in any language but English–some people will understand what you are writing in Sanskrit but most won’t–it’s the same with uncommon acronyms.
