Acrophobia

I played the crap out of this game in the late '90s. And then it disappeared–I guess whatever company that ran it was losing money on it–no ads, and a lot of bandwidth. Fun game, though.

I see hits on Google about it being back, but I can never get the game to load, and I see other people commenting about that on reviews. Does anyone know if there’s a place other than IRC where this game can be played?

Oh, man, I adored Acrophobia back in the day. I remember watching ads about the new 56k modems in between games (or before loading, whichever).

I know nothing about its revival, though.

I was seriously addicted to this game in the summer of 1998. I would get on my friend’s boyfriend’s computer at about 2:00 AM and play until the sun came up. I would love to see it brought back!

Huh, never heard of it. I would have liked it.

In the card/board game Balderdash, one category’s object is to A) create a backronym for a given set of letters and B) guess which one out of the submitted choices is the real acronym. The more players that pick yours, the more spaces you move on the board, so you’re motivated to make it seem plausible.

As my housebreaking gift to you guys, I tracked down a playable version of the game, on the net.

Go to www.acrobabble.com, register an account (you can use your Gmail, Facebook, AIM, etc accounts to create one), log in and hit “Play.” You’ll hit a room lobby, from which you can choose your category. There’s about forty people in the lobby or playing games as of writing.

The game is also at tams11.com
