The author, Eric Lichtenfeld, is a friend of mine, and he’s trying to score “hits” on the IMDB. If you’re registered there, and if you like the article, and if you’d like to post a comment:
My favorite action picture line is not included in the article. It’s John Wayne: “Never apologize, it’s a sign of weakness.”
My all time favorite is “Who are those guys?” from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. It gets a giggle every time and reinforces the essential connectedness of the characters–it’s kind of a two person one liner, if you will.
My friend and I were watching the preview for Live Free or Die Harder and they show him uttering the immortal line…the crowd cheers and she leans over and says “What did he say?” :smack:
There were a lot of things he could say. ‘Son of a bitch!’ would have been a good one. Or he could say, ‘Welcome to civilization!’ He could have said, ‘Laugh this one off!’ He might have said, ‘Fetch!’
But he didn’t, because if he had said any of those things then he’d have known that what he had just done was murder.
Terry Pratchett, showing his opinion of action movie one-liners in The Fifth Elephant.
Different strokes and all that, but I thought that was the most over-stretched one-liner I’d ever heard. For me, it marked the end of Arnie as action hero.
