The Prince Is Giving a Ball. You can see the kid at 0:28 and 1:22, credited as “Butch Sherwood,” his only acting credit, and I can find no further info on him.
However, with some ferreting I came across this pic, and there’s a slight resemblance. So, the question for the masses: Do you think they’re the same person?
Hard to tell since he’s wearing a cap, but the teeth look similar.
I don’t think it is the same person, but you may be right. BTW, according to IMDB he is also credited with being on the Joey Bishop Show in 1961.
The ears also match closely, hair does darken as you age, and there’s nothing else obviously contradictory between the two that I can see, so I think there’s a good chance it’s the same kid.
Well, thanks, but. . .
That’s the same kid as the pic I posted, as that obit was actually where I scraped the pic that I wanted compared to Cinderella’s kid. I deliberately left off the source because I thought the similarity in names might unduly influence someone to think they’re the same when they might not be–which might have happened to me. My personal confidence is about a 6/10, but that could be because I want to solve the puzzle.
(And should anyone wonder ‘why?’ I’m a credit-hound, and I like to look up obscure participants with no bios and see if I can find any biographical info.)
I just found a Facebook account of one Charles Sherwood who claims to have performed as “Butch Sherwood”. The post is a reply to Bill Mumy here.
I figured you may have gotten from there. How is that not enough for you to conclude with greater than 60% confidence that the pic is of Butch Sherwood?
An obituary of a man with the name of Sherwood “Butch” Henry Gleason II claims he was born in CA in late 1951, which reasonably would have made him about 13 around the time a movie filmed in CA released in 1965 was filmed (the kid looks to be about 13).
Four days after his death, a childhood picture featuring no other people is added to his obituary which is claimed to be added by his family, along with many other pictures of him throughout the years.
Freeze frame on the video you linked to at 0:28. Note the somewhat unusually shaped earlobe. That earlobe matches those in the picture you linked to. The teeth also. Butch Sherwood is Sherwood “Butch” Henry Gleason II.
Well, any ‘researcher’ has to keep themselves in check for confirmation bias, seeing things that comport with what they’re looking for and ignoring things that don’t. It was the teeth that made me suspect I was on the right track, but you had some better luck with the ears, because that was one of the things I was trying to match up. Also, I couldn’t find any references to the chap (with real or stage name) in any of the news archives I had access to that showed other stage productions (local or televised). But thanks for double checking.
They look very different to me. The older picture shows a strongly folded left ear (at the top) while the younger picture shows a smoothly rounded upper ear. Also the lobes look different, the younger kid’s lobes are rounded and chunky, while the older one’s are thinner and less rounded.
The noses also look different to me, the younger kid’s nose looks flatter and broader, with wider nostrils.
I don’t think you can tell much by the teeth, the younger kid could still have his baby teeth (? maybe, not sure),
The villagers in that clip must have gotten hold of some ergot-contaminated rye bread…
Side note: The ‘dreamy-eyed’ maiden had a relatively light acting career typically playing the ‘plain jane’ best friend of a main actress.
