Actor Most Due an Oscar

Has Nicholas Cage ever won an oscar?

Kind of a zombie thread, but…

At least two of those mentioned here four years ago have since received Oscars, I think:

Sean Penn for Mystic River.

Philip Seymour Hoffman for Capote.

And maybe another?

I, personally, would nominate Jeff Daniels. He should have won an Oscar as Col. Chamberlain in Gettysburg, IMHO.

I see him more as a mediocre guy in really good movies than I see him actually contributing to the greatness of any of the great movies he’s been in.

John Cusack is a great nominee for this category.

William H. Macy is another.

Renee Zellwegger has since won an Oscar too.

Second that! Plus, he may not be around as long as the rest of the people named so he should get one this year!

I love Buscemi! He’s gotta win something eventually!

“Kind of”?

Weirdness.

I opened up the thread, read the OP and thought: wow, I agree dead-on with this guy and then see that someone resuscitated one of my old threads.

I have nothing further to add.

Definitely Peter O’Toole.
Jeez, on preview his name looks almost as dirty as “Kit Fisto.”

Some comic, can’t recall who, had a joke that the only possible filthier stage name was “Muffy O’Clit.”

And to name an Oscar-deserving actress who I don’t think has yet been mentioned, Glenn Close. Good in everything I’ve ever seen her in (including “Fatal Attraction,” the mess that movie became was not her fault).

I’ll second (or third, or fourth, or whatever we’re up to) Peter O’Toole. It’s a crime that he hasn’t won an Oscar yet.

I think Jeff Bridges is underrated.
The Door In The Floor, Fearless, Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, Last Picture Show, heh–Big Lebowski.

You’re absolutely right. I think he and John Goodman should both have won for The Big Lebowski. The Academy don’t give comedy no respect.

Don Cheadle is always great. Laurence Fishburne has won a Tony and an Emmy, he just needs an Oscar to complete his collection (he was nominated once, I think).

Bruce Campbell!

I thought Kurt Russel deserved a nomination for his portrayal of Herb Brooks in Miracle, but I don’t know if I see him getting an Oscar any time soon.

(IMHO) Locks: Lawrence Fishburn (this year?), Ed Norton
(IMHO) Likely: Willem DeFoe, Tom Cruise
(IMHO) Reaches: Patrick Swayze, Matt Dillon

Alan Rickman by rights should have a basketful.

He’s freekin’ awesome.

Is Forrest Whitaker nominated this year for ‘The Last King of Scotland’? I think he’s extremely under rated, usually cast as ‘dead meat best friend’, but never turns in a bad performance. I agree with the earlier postings about Brad Pitt. He’s a great actor and people don’t see it because he’s pretty. I would say the same about Kirsten Dunst, but the fact that she makes such lousy vehicle choices works against her.
