Actors ruin movies.

I am not a movie buff. Consequently, I see maybe a half-dozen flicks a year and most of them are old classics.

Recently, I saw the reasonably well-acclaimed flick The Ring. The idea, I found, was riveting, but the acting was so bad that it detracted from my enjoyment. This seems to happen all the time and is a vast majority of why I am not particularly interested in watching movies as a passtime. For me, it’s impossible to not notice the eye-rollingly bad performances even when the story itself is pretty good.

So, am I just being hypersensitive and cynical, or do others notice this as well? I know that movies require a suspension of belief and some rationality, as with any number of other ‘hobbies,’ but this strikes me as being like terrible food at a restaurant with a terrific atmosphere and excellent staff. I really WANT to enjoy my metaphorical meal, but it’s just not good eats and it outweighs the other positives. It’s a shame, really, because I like the concept of movies, but get so frustrated when they’re continually used as a platform to show off some starlet’s exaggerated rack and create fame instead of conscientiously telling a story.

Cafe Society.

i was to scared watching The Ring to give the acting a second thought
