Roddy Mcdowall.
Sally Field

Alan Rickman.

Shelley Winters.

Warren Oates, in Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia

period.

Andrew Scott
Jason Schartzman
Tim Blake Nelson

If you haven’t seen it yet, you really need to see Two Lane Blacktop. A road movie with the singer James Taylor and Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys. Laurie Bird as the Girl. Harry Dean Stanton as a gay hitchhiker. Great scenes of old route 66.

Warren Oates stole that movie with a great performance as the GTO they were racing across country. He should have at least been nominated for an Oscar for that.

Color me gone!!!

Toni Collette is always watchable, and isn’t afraid to look unglamourous if the part calls for it.

Indeed, a fantastic film that, yeah, WO was great in.
Ed Harris
Ben Kingsley

It isn’t just my opinion.

Avery Brooks
Bryan Cranston
Patrick Stewart

Robert De Niro
Anthony Hopkins
Emily Blunt

Isn’t just our opinion.

Didn’t see him as too much of a stand-out, though, in Wild Bunch or The Border.

So much for the veracity of my original post…

Christopher Guest
Catherine Deneuve
Chris Cooper

Bogart

Edward G. Robinson (especially in his later roles).

Giancarlo Esposito. He’s simultaneously beautiful and hideous. Plus, he’s never (to my knowledge; I should check) been in a bad movie or TV show.

Also, Allison Janney.

Almost stole the show, in my favourite flick with Tim Robbins* - Bob Roberts.
And that’s with a great supporting cast like Brian Murray as an evenhanded-to-a-fault Brit doc fimmaker, a game Gore Vidal putting in a perfectly fine turn as BR’s political rival, salinqmind’s Alan Rickman, and the jaw-dropping first film role by nutty guy Jack Black as that proto-deplorable with the “BOB” forehead tat.
And I know I’m missing some others.
Esposito, though, was on fire for that puppy, especially for one or two of those amazing (at the time novice) director Robbins’s long tracking shots.

The British actress Alison Steadman completely floors me - I’m almost humbled by her (I feel) waaaay unacknowledged breadth of character portrayal, from film to film…like a chameleon. A consummate professional.

Pretty well everything I’ve seen with Isabelle Huppert and Charlotte Rampling I really like and want to pursue more of their stuff.

*Yep, more than Shawshank. (hmmmmm but actually - The Player, though…)

Spike Milligan and Peter Sellers.

But only on the radio.

Geoffrey Rush
Cate Blanchett
Ralph Fiennes
Francesca Annis

David Tennant
Robert Downey Jr.
Alan Rickman

Paul Bettany. I’ve loved him in everything I’ve seen, but if I had to pick a role that he was born to play, it was Stephen Maturin in Master and Commander: Far Side of the World.

Alex Kingston. Though she’s criminally underused in A Discovery of Witches.

Denzel Washington.

Sterling K. Brown. Only seen him in This Is Us and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, but I’ve been impressed.

And of course, the classic RADA bunch: Patrick Stewart, Anthony Hopkins, Judi Dench, Roger Rees, Derek Jacobi. I’ve yet to see David Tennant in anything I didn’t like; same with Peter Capaldi and Emma Thompson.

Um, can you tell that I’m a bit of an Anglophile?

Peter O’Toole made every role better than it was written.
