Actors who played the same character in two different versions of the same movie

Are there any cases where the same actor played the same character in two completely distinct productions of the same movie?

Not counting actors who appeared as their real-life person.

Meant to post this in CS. Self-reported for forum change.

Peter Dinklage apparantly played the same character in 2 versions of “Death at a Funeral” I haven’t seen either, the listed name for his chacacter is different, but I assume it’s the same basic role.

Off to Cafe Society

Not quite the same, but Glenda Jackson played Elizabeth I in two different productions. One was the BBC production Elizabeth R. Then, in the movie Mary, Queen of Scots, Jackson again played Elizabeth I.

Yes, it is the same role. The versions are basically the same, but still sorta different and (amazingly) both pretty good.

Alan Hale Sr. as Little John in 3 different Robin Hoods.

Well, Gary Burghoff played Radar in both the move and TV versions of MASH and they were quite different from each other, different casts, different moods, different theme. Is that sort of what you mean?

Penelope Cruz played the same role in Open Your Eyes and the remake Vanilla Sky. Ingrid Bergman played the same role in Intermezzo and the remake of the same name. Gérard Depardieu played the same role in My Father, the Hero and the remake of the same name. Clark Gable played in the same role in Red Dust and the remake Mogambo:

The entire Danish cast of Reptilicus when they re-shot it in English.

Heck, this whole thread is a remake with some of the same roles.

Miller played me in that earlier version, though.

I’m going to define ‘different production’ to mean significantly different production people - I.e. not the same screenwriters, production company, producer or director, so reshoots in a different language, or UK/USA franchise swaps are out.

Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher & Mark Hamill played the same roles in Star Wars: A New Hope and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
…what?

Liz Smith played Mrs. Dilber, Ebenezer Scrooge’s charlady, in both the Patrick Stewart and George C Scott versions of A Christmas Carol.

“Never Say Never Again” was a remake of “Thunderball,” and Sean Connery played James Bond in both.

Clark Gable was the male lead in both ‘Red Dust’ (1932) and its remake, Mogambo (1953), although during the remaking process, his character changed from plantation owner Dennis Carson to big game hunter Victor Marswell.

How about the entire cast of Exorcist: Dominion and Exorcist: The Beginning?

Scratch that- not the entire cast, just some of it. Notably, Stellan Skarsgard.

My other example, Sean Connery in Thunderball and Never Say Never Again, was mentioned in the other thread (someone snuck it into this one while I was writing this post, as well), but I actually have one that wasn’t, too…

Takako Fuji played Kayako Saeki in the Ju-On series in the first four movies (as well as one of the two shorts that were developed into it), and the first two American Grudge movies - the first of which was mostly a remake of Ju-On: The Grudge (the third movie in the original franchise).
