Alana de la Garza from FBI, somehow her cheekbones got very prominent, leading fans to think she got them by way of plastic surgery.
Oh, there’s no question it is very much a part of many of the characters he plays, and he is a terrific actor! I will watch something just because he’s in it. But still… those teeth!!
There was a joke about this in Ted 2:
She’s sitting in a diner with the title character and Mark Wahlberg, and they comment on the waitress giving Mark “fuck me” eyes.
Amanda Seyfried: Do I have “fuck me” eyes?
Ted: No, you have “give us the ring, my precious” eyes.
Good point - I’m sure Billy Crudup’s fine talent would have won him more awards if everyone wasn’t going ‘that Phil Dunphy sure can act’.
Always thought there was something elfin about ATJ her features lean more Elrond than Legolas, so much so I thought she might’ve had a cameo in LOTR. No but apparently is cast in a new lotr movie coming out 12/27.
‘A beautiful hammerhead shark.’
That description of her lives rent-free in my head every time I see her. I like Anya Taylor-Joy as an actor and I do think she’s very pretty. But she’s a very pretty praying mantis
.
I always feel like Swoosie Kurtz’s facial features are somehow just slightly out of proportion. The distracting thing is, I can’t figure out how. I’m fine with her as an actor, though.
I find Juno Temple, who plays Keeley on Ted Lasso to be somewhat strange-looking. She has a very nice figure, and is probably considered pretty, but her face reminds me of Mr. Burns on The Simpsons, or perhaps a ballon which has had a face drawn on it.
I think it might be that she has a high forhead and the space from her bottom lip to her chin is small in comparison. Also, her thin lips add to illusion that her lower face is kind of squished, vertically.
Yeah, I think you might be onto something. Another thing is, I think the effect has become more pronounced over the years. At least to my eye. Add to that, overall she’s not physically a big person.
As I understand it, he is quite near-sighted, but it was those eyes that might have got him the role of Frodo. Appealing to many, sort of like those large-eyed paintings that used to be so popular.
Barbara Feldon (agent 99 in the original Get Smart, still alive at 93!) had the same problem, only for her it made her eyes look dreamy and romantic. She credited that with a lot of her sex appeal.
Ursula Andress - When I first learned she was dubbed in Dr. No, I watched her scenes to see if I could tell, only to find it was impossible because I was unable to focus on her mouth.
Wallace Beery - A walking grotesque of a human being. I find him hard to watch, especially when playing characters who are idiots.
Rondo Hatton - Acromegalic actor.
Yūjirō Ishihara - Japanese movie star and pop singer with bad teeth. I’ve seen low angle close-ups of him and there seems to be a big wad of flesh on the inside of his mouth. Once seen, it is looked for, always.
Telly Savalas, Daryl Hannah and others who are missing fingers and who sometimes wear fake fingers to cover it up.
When Manifest was popular, before it went off the rails, there were many comments here about Melissa Roxburgh’s eyebrows, but until I read the comments they did not bother me.
I can’t focus on Gwyneth Paltrow’s acting because I’m distracted by her mouth. She has no upper lip.
Peter Lorrie’s appearance always takes me out of the story.
One of the few actors I can give a decent impression of- it has been known to freak people out. I like his acting.
So far I agree with everyones’ examples (except for the few who I’m not familiar with) and you’re cracking me up!
Taking a page out of the “actors you confuse for another actor” idea, I spent the first several minutes of the movie Eileen thinking I was watching the previously mentioned [Anya Taylor-Joy], (https://hips.hearstapps.com/hmg-prod/images/visual-3-dior-addict-08939-694acebd99d37.jpeg) when in reality it was Anne Hathaway . I don’t recall when or how I realized it was AH, but it was too late; I was fixated.
Also, I don’t think anyone has mentioned Jesse Plemmons and the Fat Damon Effect
Sophie Turner is a good actress and a beautiful woman, but whenever I see her in an X-Men movie, all I can think about is how perfect Famke Janssen was in the role.
This one isn’t down to physical appearance per se, so I’m not sure if it really fits the OP?
Timothy Dalton is a very good actor but I just think James Bond whenever I see or hear him in something, I guess because he’s been pretty selective in his film career and presumably did an awful lot of stage work. And he only did two Bonds! Conversely, despite Sean Connery being in seven Bonds, I don’t think of James Bond whenever I see him. But then he had a much more extensive film career, or so it seemed.
