Actors that you just can't stand to watch

In this thread, I’d like to ask people to name one actor they just cannot stand to watch in movies or TV shows - especially if other people don’t seem to find them particularly horrible.

If you like, please state some reasons why you don’t like them.
Also, if you like, please state any exceptions - like one film or TV show in which you thought they did a good job and you enjoyed watching.

My choice is Vince Vaughn. I find him to be a loud mouth whose routine gets very old very quickly.
There is one movie however that I would call an exception. It is the film “Fred Claus (2007)”. That is a comedy that imagines what if Santa Claus’ had a brother named Fred.
Fred Claus is nothing like his brother. He is selfish and manipulative and a real SOB.
But I found this film to be a lot of fun - mostly because of some of the other actors, such as: Paul Giamatti, Rachel Weisz (especially good) and Elizabeth Banks.

There is one chase scene in particular where a whole bunch of street Santa Claus are chasing Fred dressed as Santa because he was collecting money without a license.
The chase was done to the song, “Surfin’ Bird” by the Trashmen. It was a really hilarious scene.

Are any of you familiar with the German word “backpfeifengesicht”? It means “Eddie Redmayne”.
I’d like to say that it’s his affected acting style and generally annoying demeanor, or maybe because I hated his characters in *Jupiter Ascending, Les Mis *and Fantastic Beasts so, so much, but really, it’s his face. It just needs to be punched.

Gary Sinise and his gurning face.

I also have disliked Vince Vaughn since Jurassic Park 2, which I believe was in fact his first film, so there you go.

Anyway, my choice is Danny McBride. How the hell did he get where he is? What a talentless dick. No thank you.

Will Ferrel grates on my nerves and will ruin anything he is in. He is decidedly unfunny. His one note style is just annoying

Jason Alexander. He manages to ruin everything he touches, even The Music Man, for God’s sake, a musical that is next to impossible to ruin. Eighth graders do a better Harold Hill.

His undertone of desperate neediness is annoying after 30 seconds. He was even annoying in commercials.

My first thought was Diane Keaton, because she always, and only, plays Diane Keaton. I looked up her Filmography and discovered I’ve only seen a tiny fraction of her work, but there’s a sameness to what I have seen. I can’t imagine she has any more depth than that. So maybe I’m wrong, but I’m not going out of my way to find out.

I fully agree and I am amazed that Hank Azaria has just kind of cloned his style in his current TV show Brockmire. Very similar acting style and similar situations. Really dreadful.

I’ve long disliked Bill Murray. He generally plays the wise-guy confident self-assured a-hole, which I cannot stand. He has transcended this in some films (His annoying character getting what’s coming to him worked to his advantage in Scrooged and Groundhog Day and, arguably, The Razor’s Edge. But he’s still playing that annoying character), but in most of his roles I find it torture to watch him.

I’ll go with a very unpopular opinion.

I really can’t stand Leo DiCaprio in anything other than Titanic. I actually think he’s so forceful, unconvincing, tryhard and unnatural in his acting and the fact that so many viewers constantly harp on about how brilliant he is just magnifies those issues for me.
Only in the role of Jack Dawson does he actually FEEL like the character he’s portraying.

Mark Wahlberg.

Can’t watch his films without thinking back to that cringeworthy Marky Mark shtick. Not to mention he’s a felon who racially abused young black women and beat a Vietnamese man with a stick. The fact he has made it big is a disgrace imo.

Oh and his movies (at least the ones I know of) seem to be the same character.

Guaranteed to raise objections:

Saoirse Ronan. She overacted to the hilt in Atonement. Had to grit my teeth thru Lady Bird cause I wanted to see Metcalf.

Leonardo DiCaprio. Another overdoing it, bad actor that my hate for started with What’s Eating Gilbert Grape and never diminished.

David Thewlis. He just seems like a greasy, creepy slimeball.

Not sure I’d say “can’t stand”, but the casting of Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, or Kevin Costner has never increased a movie’s attraction for me.

Matthew McConaughey. Never thought he was handsome, though there was a time where at least I didn’t find him repulsive. He’s been quite good in a few things:Killer Joe, Mud, The Paperboybut over time my dislike of him has been increasing to the point where I will avoid any movie that he’s in, even if they look good otherwise.

Connie Britton has gotten on my nerves since the first time I saw her on the first season of American Horror Story. There’s an interesting show on Netflix (I think) called Dirty John that I’d avoided just because she’s the lead. A friend, who really likes her, recommended it and I didn’t want to criticize a favorite actor of hers so I tried to watch it. The story is good, in spite of her, but I think I’m going to end up rooting for the bad guy, which I obviously the opposite of what the creators intended.

David Spade. Smarmy and eminently punchable without delivering a single laugh line. Fortunately, he doesn’t ruin much because he chooses projects I have no interest in seeing.

I can’t believe no one has mentioned Chevy Chase yet. I find his acting annoying and knowing how much of an a-hole he is in real life doesn’t help matters either.

Then there is** Pauly Shore**—who I just found annoying in the 90s when he was doing movies.

Speaking of annoying greasy, creepy slimeballs, let’s not forget about Steven Seagal.

Oops, I forgot to mention the reason for the hatred.

McConoughey’s weird, ugly face, ill fitting dentures, stupid accent and overall vibe of weirdness. Also he looks like he probably smells bad.

Britton’s stupid, big hair and her air of rich, aging woman who thinks she looks younger than she does. Totally irrational and based on absolutely nothing; just what makes her unwatchable for me.

Jim Carrey. He was near-brilliant at the start of his career. Can’t. Stand. Him. Now.

Another vote for Will Ferrel.
