Which actors do you dislike to watch?

It occurred to me while watching “The Island of Dr. Moreau” with Michael York than I have never liked him in anything. I’m sure he’s a perfectly nice guy, it’s just something about the way he acts that rubs me the wrong way.

Who do you dislike strictly for their acting?

Jeremy Irons
William Hurt

Andrew McCarthy. He owns exactly one facial expression – a look of mild panicked surprise.

I think James Franco is a fine actor, but “rubs me the wrong way” is a perfect way of describing him.

Nicholas Cage

Just enough already.

Sean Penn.

I despised his character in Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

I watched We’re No Angels for deNiro, not for Penn. I found Penn’s character annoying.

I remember liking Carlito’s Way, but did not even remember that Penn was in it.

I would like to say that I am boycotting him for his lefty politics, but the truth is, he rarely makes movies that interest me.

There are quite a few others whose names I can’t quite recall at the moment, who are competent actors and who have played a wide variety of characters – most of whom are loathsome – but two that stand out in the “give me the creeps” category are Zach Grenier and Zeljko Ivanek.

Catherine Zeta-Jones. Can’t explain it…is it her voice? Her manner? Her eyes? I don’t know. But something about her is like nails on a chalkboard to me.

I would say Kristen Stewart, but that would be like shooting fish in a barrel.

It’s appropriate that in her next movie, she plays a stoner.

Jason Alexander has the amazing ability to ruin anything he’s ever in.

Vince Vaughn. Always comes across as an arrogant dick.

Richard Gere. to me he’s nothing but a pretty-boy. He projects smugness, but I don’t think that’s acting.

Bill Paxton. I know, I know. You all agree but thought he went without saying. Well, I think it’s worth saying. Bill Paxton, times 1000.

Ashton Kutcher. I pretty much dislike every character he’s played. With one exception: I really enjoyed No Strings Attached and I liked his character in that movie.

He was horrible in Aliens; really obnoxious in Wierd Science (biut he was supposed to be); but awesome in Frailty.

Hard to believe that Chet is 60.

John Travolta. His worst performance IMO was as a General in A Thin Red Line. Utterly wrong and unbelievable in the part. Have to admit that I liked him in Blow Up though.

Jerry O’Connell has been unwatchable in everything he’s done after Stand By Me.

I’m sure I’ll catch hell for this, but I can’t stand Bill Murray. Hated him on SNL, hated him in just about everything I’ve seen him in. I might like him in The Razor’s Edge, from what I’ve heard. I did like him in Groundhog Day, possibly because in that film, at least at the start, he’s supposed to be an annoying character.

But, nope, didn’t care for him in the Ghostbusters movies, or Caddyshack, or Stripes, or even Lost in Translation. I could’ve done without his segment in Zombieland.

Christian Slater and John Cusack. Never saw either of them in a movie I liked. Their presence in a movie has been enough to make me skip it for decades now. I think I dislike Slater more, as even a still photograph makes me want to punch him in the taint until he bleeds from the ears.

Will Ferrell. And yes, you can argue he’s a comic, not an actor, but he’s and unwatchable comic and an unwatchable actor.
