Actors whose appearance you find distracting?

:judge: I’ll allow it. And now that you mention Timothy Dalton, I’m reminded of his younger self’s resemblance to Dylan McDermott.

Clint Howard

This is how I feel about the lead woman in Fallout. It’s uncanny valley territory for me.

She’s gorgeous!

I think both of them are weird looking, actually.

She is pretty in an interesting way but she kinda creeps me out. It’s like she’s always so affected…like she’s just too aware of herself and is always posing and mugging for the camera.

I can’t see Tom in Colin very much, so I forget about the relation.

When Rogue One came out, there was a lot of talk about how the computer-generated Grand Mof Tarkin didn’t look like the real Peter Cushing. It’s true. The real Peter Cushing was deep in the Uncanny Valley, while the CG one looked like an actual person.

It worked when he was young with a soft, more rounded face and they did his hair long and wild for the movie, but now that he’s well into adulthood and buzzes his hair they’re more pronounced and odd.

Oh, that’s perfect!

Wait…that’s not his tongue?

Actually, he’s kind of weird-looking in that photo…squinchy eyes, small mouth, wide lower face. And I don’t see Timothy Dalton in him so much.

Kirsten Dunst always seemed to have one expression, and is another whose eyes seem abnormally far apart. But she was brilliant in the Fargo series as Peggy Blumquist.

His spacing isn’t as bad as Karen Robinson’s ( Inspector Vivienne Holness on L&O Toronto); I can’t watch when she’s on the screen.

French Stewart’s half-closed eyes used to distract me when he was on “Third Rock from the Sun” but in later roles, he’s opened his eyes more, or I’ve gotten over it.

I’ve read where he said he did it deliberately for that character. Thank goodness!

Daniel Craig. He was cast as James Bond, but to me he looks like the Russians he should be chasing.

I find anyone with obvious cosmetic surgery completely distracting and off-putting. It makes me sad to think of what they willingly did to their faces. Especially when it’s on someone who I had the notion had more self-esteem than that.

Ah. That makes sense

Yes, “mugging for the camera” – that’s what she does. And you know who else does that? Helen Hunt.
