I’m not altogether sure that this counts as the influencer mentioned may not be a Republican, and if it doesn’t fit I’m sorry. I hope the postal worker doesn’t have any problems.
This isn’t necessarily a steal but I doubt they are there to protect democracy:
Full title: Proud Boys claim they’ll be at polling places as Trump ups violent rhetoric and election fraud claims
As Donald Trump yet again tells his supporters he can lose Tuesday only if there’s massive voter fraud and as he ramps up violent rhetoric about Democrats and other “enemies,” members of the far-right group that put more “boots on the ground” than any other at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, say they’re mobilizing.
It’s been mentioned elsewhere, but I really do think there’s a possibility of isolated violence at random polling locations tomorrow. Reports like this do nothing to alleviate that concern.
I know there have also been reports of elections officials and law enforcement preparing for that distinct possibility. So hopefully it’ll be a whole lot of noise, but nothing too serious.
Michigan, (where I’m at), has a history of outsized influence by militia groups, so who knows?
I am also reminded of news coverage from election night of large groups of people gathering outside precincts after the polls had closed. IIRC, they mostly dispersed peacefully after a few hours though, so maybe it will be something like that.
Sorry wrong thread.
Foiled again
Bumping this to raise a question that may already have been answered elsewhere (and if so - apologies)
What feasibilty (or lack of) would there be in having all swing states budget not just for 24-hour in-person security at polling stations (for the upcoming midterms) but also full surveillance to document what will (yeah, likely) be altercations arising from (gee, let me guess) alt right actors, some of them maybe ICE, trying shut down / decommission any stations in their disengenuous name of “election integrity”?
Protection would be very expensive so I doubt you will see any of it anywhere.
Even if such protection was put in place it is likely only blue states would do that.
It’d need to be volunteers. Of course, any such volunteers would be likely to be arrested for voter intimidation.
Maybe the volunteers could all dress up as friendly cartoon characters.
Yes and no.
A lot of polling places have fewer than the full number of authorized workers because not enough people are willing to accept the pay, which, at least in Pennsylvania, is rather low but not zero.
Those who have time can contact their county or similar election department.
See:
We’re Facing a Historic Shortage of Poll Workers. Can Voters Count on You?
You also can contact your local (I presume) Democratic Party office to see if they need election day help. That might be volunteer, or it might be they provide some of the paid workers.
Someone might say that poll workers aren’t exactly defenders against voter intimidation. But I think full staffing will make intimidators think twice. I’ve never been a poll worker but think the training will address some of this.
P.S. Sometime the word “volunteer” is used when it turns out you actually get paid something.
I presume this thread includes Republicans trying to steal the 2026 elections. Correct?
If correct, this news out today is relevant because the votes in question concern a California ballot question from last year regarding this year’s federal elections:
California sheriff running for governor seizes more than a half million ballots from 2025 election
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said he couldn’t understand why anyone would disagree with a president deploying federal agents to the polls.
Is there a link that doesn’t require giving up an email address?
For which link?
We are not allowed to bypass paywalls here.
If someone can share a gift link that might work (not all places allow that…few do actually).
This one behaved.
Thank you @Guest-starring_Id.
You’re welcome. Just learning that the source is left but heavy-handed, but the story pans out with the previous source. Wish I put this in the pit to express my intense feelings for Mr. Blanche.
No reason you can’t start one (unless there already is one…I did not check). I am no fan either.
