Actual weird store names from where you live.

Oh, AFG! I know you don’t know me from Adam, but I’ve been trying to get some t-shirs from Philthy McNasty’s forever! I will gladly send you the money to get a couple for me. Will you let me know what styles/sizes are available and how much? I would truly appreciate it!

I just recently bought a t-shirt for a friend of mine at Master Bait and Tackle. What a hoot!

I’m not sure if the location by me sells shirts, but I’ll have a look and let you know!

There used to be a car wash in Costa Mesa called** Hand Job**.

In Monterey Park, a predominantly Asian area, there is a** Shun Fat ** Food Market.

In Los Angeles, in an Asian neighborhood, there is an **Ethical Drugs ** and a Sincere Pharmacy

And years ago when gas stations were independently owned and had the owner’s name on the building, there was a **Katt and Byrd ** service station in LA.

Actually, Tapioca Express is a chain. They sell drinks with large tapioca beads in the bottom. A chewy drink snack popular in Asia. They come in about a million flavors and are quite tastey. Newbees usually like Thai Iced Tea flavor or coconut.

Thought of another one. The Hygenic Store along Kalaniani’ole Highway on Oahu. The building style is typical western frontier general store and looks old enough to be authentic. Never seen it open.

Best I can come up with from my area is “Debra’s Hair Port” and is complete with sign of a lighthouse. I’ve never really figured that one out.

There’s a shop down the road from me. It’s called Rabbi something’s Strip Club, Dating Service, and Dental Surgery. I really want to know what they actually do sell, as it hasnt finished being built yet. But there’s a painting on the side of a big smiling Rabbi in the middle of The Star of David made of toothbrushes, with naked women in the spaces between the points. So cool!

Thanks so much!

I saw a place in Delaware once called Happy Harry’s Discount Drugs. Best. Pharmacy. Name. Ever.

Bubble tea, yes? These have invaded the malls in Toronto under the name Bubble Tease.

AFG, is that Philthy McNasty’s the location on Eglinton east of Yonge?

Nope, it’s the one in Waterloo…
We have a Bubble Tease out here too.

A few years ago, near Dupont Circle in Washington DC, there was a store called Bashi-Bazouks.

It sold Tintin memorabilia. An entire store in America devoted entirely to Tintin, imagine that. It didn’t last.

The hell is Tintin? The Tin Woodman’s trusty canine companion?

But how can I fail to mention the peerless town of Beaver Creek? We were driving through it and I gasped in amazement as I spotted the source of an actual internet cliche. Beaver Liquors. Then, as we were headed back towards Vail, I could have sworn I passed an establishment by a lake called Beaver Divers, but it may have been altitude sickness messing with my head.

Locally, the only odd thing we get are places with ethnic names. Although I did see a car dealership the other day called Rude Mercs.

And TinTin is a Belgian cartoon

In Durham, NC there’s an “antiques” store called Everything But Grannie’s Panties

In Athens GA there is a place called the Junkman’s Daughter’s Brother which is related to Junkman’s Daughter in Atlanta either just in name or on paper, too. This was funnier at some other point in my life…uh…

Anyway where I live we have:
The Best Little Hair House
Doug’s Dinner Bucket

Tintin is a series of adventure comics by Hergé, wildly popular in Europe and in the Francophone world.

“Bashi-bazouks” was one of the insults favoured by Tintin’s friend Captain Haddock, who favoured polysyllabic and somewhat incoherent outbursts of rage.

And English Canada.

sulk

Really? I thought I was just weird like that. Hamish had never heard of it, at any rate. Or Asterix.

I don’t know if it’s ‘wildly popular’, but it’s certainly KNOWN in English Canada.
