Acura EGR valve problems

I have a ’99 Acura TL 3.2 (six cylinder) with the check engine light on. The previous owner had the code read by a mechanic, and was told that it was an inherent problem with the EGR valve. Acura was extending the warranty to X years or 80K miles, but as it had 85K miles, they would not cover it.

The code is unfortunately vague. There is a quick diagnostic to do (disconnect the valve and see if the engine stalls at idle) to see if the lines are clogged, and if so how to clean them, but I haven’t seen anything that relates to fixing the problem once and for all. What’s confusing me is that I can’t tell whether to replace the EGR valve or the sensor to avoid the problem in the future.

Anyone have an idea? Anyone know of an Acura or similar niche-specific forum to recommend?

Thanks,

Rhythm

After several days of searching and finding ads for EGR parts and somewhat similar questions, I finally give up and post to the Dope. Then I find this PDF of the original service bulletin. :smack:
