Ugh. This poster starts this turd of a thread in both GD and BBQ Pit (or one got moved here, not sure) to push buttons. And it works, and posters who should have learned by now let those buttons be pushed. Seeing success, the OP keeps sprinkling dropping more turds, and the responses keep coming. Whether or not OP believes the shit being pedalled, OP knows that buttons are being pushed and keeps pushing them.
It’s not that there isn’t a discussion to be had, but treat the OP and his/her ilk like the rotten 5 year olds (and I apologize to rotten 5 year olds for that analogy because at least there is hope for them) they are. Let the adults speak and ignore the attention-grabbing antics. Both threads have gone from mildly amusing train wrecks to watching supposedly smart posters being played like cheap fiddles.
Three things:
- It’s a message board. The point is to respond to topics that interest you and that you care about.
- There are those who read because they want to become familiar with the subject and want to be better informed or persuaded by arguments and new information.
- Invariably, the trolling bullshitter is rarely convinced or enlightened by opposing arguments, but I doubt they leave the topic thinking they’ve managed to successfully perpetrate the lies they are telling.
- We learn excellent responses to counter people we meet IRL who have been taken in by similar trollish claims. Some of these people are actually open to hearing reason and are glad to have their notions debunked.
I agree that there is a discussion to be had, just have it around the trolling bullshitters, not with them.
