Adding custom sounds to MS Office functions

I am a novice MS Office/Windows user, and recently learned that Office users can change the default audio settings for various functions (e.g., sounds that occur when you open a MS Word document, receive e-mail, for Outlook reminders, etc.) to sounds that are more pleasing.

My questions:

(1) Are there websites where I may download these sounds from a menu of thousands, or am I expected to create them myself?
(2) What is the process by which I add them to my system? Are they like MP3 files that I somehow download and then the computer figures out how to incorporate them into my wish list of sounds?

For instance, could I set my computer so that the first 5 seconds of my favorite song plays when I receive new e-mail?

As I hate to trouble anyone too much with my ignorance, a helpful how-to link would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

BTW, we’re on a Win 2000 Pro platform.

I just went into Start > Settings > Control panel > Multimedia sounds. Although I see how I can change various WINDOWS-related sounds, how do I add a custom sound so that, say, the first 5 seconds of a certain song plays when I CLOSE an MS Word file?

Download and install Office Sounds, then open Word, go to Tools|Options|General and check Provide feedback with sound.

This assumes you’re using Office 2000 or XP.

Do a google on wav files, here’s an example. And yes, you can go to each event under sounds and give the path where you want the sound to come from (usually in some sound or wav file directory you’ve created on your hard drive).
