In this thread the newbie OP reveals unprotected (poss.illegal) sex and gives his name.
He’s being pushed by other posters about exposing his name. I went to “Report Bad Post” and saw:
"Note: This is ONLY to be used to report spam, advertising messages, and problematic (harassment, fighting, or rude) posts. "
So I’m using this method to bring it to Admin attention, to see if they want to delete his name. It’s a judgment call in any case. FYI.
The staff have said in the past to use Report Post for ANY post you think deserves attention. Ignore the wording on the page, it’s standard vB and hasn’t been changed, even though it’s not exactly correct. They prefer to get reports of stuff that DON’T need attention, rather than not get any about posts that DO.
IANA staff member, but the “Report This Post” button, as I understand it, is to be used for anything you think deserves a mod’s attention; not only the things specified on that page. I know, it’s confusing, but whenever they upgrade the software, that message reverts back to the “Only use this if people are going to die as a result of this post” message you were unsure about. Don’t sweat it.
Can anything be done to change that notice that comes up when you do click “report post”? It does seem to put a lot of people off using the function, until they ask here. (Threw me a bit too, when I first saw it ages ago.)
They sure can. At one time, they HAD changed it, but the upgrade to the current version reverted it to its default. I imagine it’s on a To Do list someplace on Jerry’s desk, but it’s probably item #2,365,428 on a very long list of issues.
Yeah, we’re starting to pull stuff together to make this an easier place to navigate . . . including putting stuff in a more formal FAQ and not all these stickies. Hope to have it soon.
I run a amessage board, and I noticed it’s fairly common to new posters from India or Pakistan incude their real name in their first post. I don’t know why that is, but it’s not unusual at all.
I hit “Report Post” when a new member included enough information in a post for someone to get the poster’s full name, address, and telephone number with a Google search. AFAIK, it was not acted upon.
