Adopt-A-Pet...sort of.

A friend sent me this link last night - they’ve been looking for a new dog, so she checks out the site every so often.

I just have one question - what the hell is a ‘goat mix’?

Chickens and goats and snakes - oh, my!

Is this like “Kibbles and bits”? Goat mix sounds like feed of some sort.

Well, it’s listed under ‘breed’. So I keep picturing a goat crossed with a dog.

There’s also a ‘chicken mix’.

 I can actually answer this with agonizing accuracy.

Petharbor is the online version of the Chameleon database package: animal shelters who license Chameleon can choose to put their animals online via Petharbor.

When you enter an animal into Chameleon, you put in the primary breed and the secondary breed, in addition to the animal type and the animal breed group. For example, for a Pit Bull/Chihuahua mix, you’d put in:
Animal type: Dog
Breed Group: Terrier
Primary Breed: Pit Bull
Secondary Breed: Chihuahua

Here’s the thing: by default, the secondary breed is “mix.” You leave the default up if you know the animal isn’t a purebreed but you’re not sure what the secondary breed would be.

Looks like Albuquerque Animal Services data entry folks forgot to change the default for this animal :).
