Adult Swim's premieres.

Adult Swim had several premieres tonight. What’d you guys think?

Superjail - Eww.

The Drinky Crow Show - Ewww! Shame, I like the artwork.

That Crook’d Sipp - Not what I expected from the previews. It was pretty awful.

Fat Guy Stuck in Internet - It doesn’t have the charm of Saul of the Mole Man but I do see some potential.

Let’s Fish - This one has the most potential. I actually laughed out loud at his food fantasy got ruined.

See, I loved Space Ghost, The Brak Show, Home Movies, and the like.

Now, I just can’t get into Adult Swim. I dunno if it is because I have gotten older with a different sense of humor, or the programming is worse, but I didn’t chuckle once at any of those tonight. Thumbs down to all.

I liked all those too. Although Space Ghost seriously declined later in the series in that I felt their direction of humor changed. More in the direction of the two shows I rated as ewwws. What about The Venture Brothers?

I’d wish they’d try Welcome to Eltingville again or see about Mission Hill rather then these 15 minute shorts.

My problem with recent Adult Swim material is the emphasis on trying for shock humor. That can work, but what was shocking ten years ago isn’t shocking any more. A cartoon monkey getting cut in half with organs spilling out isn’t going to work when everyone and their cousin has done ultraviolent animated humor cartoon (I also liked that artwork on that one, though). The closest to what I want in the premiers was Let’s Fish and it didn’t really connect with me.

I need wit, not shock. Being outrageous is not funny in and of itself but that’s the way Adult Swim has gone with about 80% of their original programming.

We could try bugging the AS offices to pick up some more anime shows, instead—you know how they love that.

Anyway—thought the Crow one had just enough violent self-loathing to make it worthwhile. Haven’t seen the others, yet, besides the creepy prison one. But I’m not very optimistic (Seeing as I’m not a dadaist stoner, I guess I’m not the target audience).

The only one I watched was Drunky Crow. I liked it all right, it’s probably nothing that I would seek out specifically to watch, especially since with the 15 minute run time of everything around it if I start watching something else I’ll likely be into that program before Drunky Crow starts and I won’t switch over.

I enjoyed Fat Guy, but I enjoyed it when it was Gemberling, so it was cool to see it hit the big time.

Damn! I waited for 3 months to catch “Drinky Crow” and forgot to tune in! Probably only have another 3,845 chances to catch it before a new one comes out.
