Why is there no product similar to Advantage™ for people. It would seem such a thing would be great considering the reimmergence of lyme disease. Also in poor nations where malaria and such things has become a problem it could really reduce disease worldwide. If Advantage™ is really that toxic, should we be putting on our pets that touch all the time?
Advantage is designed to be applied to the skin. Usually when you are petting an animal you are petting the fur and not really getting all that much contact with skin. The instructions for application tell you to wash your hands after applying it.
I don’t know why it hasn’t been developed for people - I sure could use something to keep chiggers off!
A few months ago there was much squealing and gnashing of teeth from those in authority when it was discovered people were using Frontline and Advantage on themselves and their kids  link and another link to newspaper stories. link to a message board
The reasons given by the parents is that headlice aren’t dying with the normal treatments and these products are effective. However I wonder if they aren’t putting the time into doing the human treatments, and are looking for an easy “out”? :dubious: From the 3rd link parents who are spending hours combing and checking hair get rid of the problem without chemicals.
Any time I’ve used these products on their intended victim has freaked me out trying not to get any on me or breath it’s vapours; I can’t imagine willing myself to dose a rug-rat with these products however one of the parents interviewed on TV had gone 2 years with kids with headlice, using every product available, medical advice, natural products, … one round of Frontline or whatever and no more problem.
I can’t see drug companies developing a human version, imagine a film of insecticide over your skin 24/7 or some toxic chemical absorbed through your skin and floating around your bloodstream for a month
All the above is my own uninformed opinion. IANAD or anything else knowledgeable. YMMV. I do not have kids. I have trouble walking and talking at the same time.
