Adventures in Company Shutdowns, or Lightnin' SCORES!

Okay, not that kinda scorin’ goin’ on, but I’m happy nonetheless.

Kinesoft, a game company here in Austin, just recently went under. Sad news, to be sure- we’ve had a lot of casualties in the game field lately. I’m just glad I didn’t get that job there a while back…

Anyway. Kinesoft announced that they would be selling off a lot of their equipment. A large contingent of my officemates went by the Kinesoft offices to see what they could scavenge- I decided to tag along. I REALLY don’t need more furniture, but what the heck, they might have some computer hardware, right?

Boy did they. By the next day I’d picked up:

A Dell 19" monitor- $125.00
Cinemaster DVD decoder card- $5.00
GeForce 256- $5.00 (!)
GeForce2 GTS DDR- $5.00 (!!)
Creative Labs DVD-Rom- $5.00 (!!!)

I’m so damn happy. I just got all of it installed, and just had to gush. And gloat. Mostly gush, though.

A friend of mine picked up a Dell 21" monitor for $250 (we’re talking a thousand dollar monitor here, folks), while another picked up an Oxygen card for $2.00. We’re all walking around with big ol’ smiles on our faces.

  1. I hate you. Especially about the GForce2 DDR.
  2. What is a Oxygen card?
  3. Hi Opal!
  4. Do they have anything left?
  1. Don’t hate me because I’m beautiful… uh, I mean because I scored… uh, I mean, something like that.

  2. http://www.3dlabs.com/product/card/oxygen_gvx420/oxygen_gvx420.htm
I’m kicking myself now- after looking at that URL, I realize that I saw ANOTHER Oxygen card. And I didn’t pick it up. Grr. I thought it was a REALLY old video card- I mean, surely they don’t make 'em that big anymore, right?
    Ugh.

  3. I didn’t see Opal there, but the sale was on for a few days, so the Cat could’ve gotten in to get a few good deals.

  4. No, Friday was the last day. Dammit. Now that I know what an Oxygen card looks like, I wish I could go back and pick it up.

It does look like an old video card. Big as a VLB or EISA card.
