Advertising inferior chicken, a poll.

Fast food commercials always advertize thier chicken products as “all white meat.” I have always wondered why they would admit to this obvious flaw. Then a weird thought hit me. What if there are people out there who actually prefer white meet? :eek: White meat is ok, but it is nothing compared to the moist, flavorful goodness that is dark meat. Do these white meat loving freaks really exist? This thread is designed to find out.
Dopers, which do you prefer? White or dark chicken meat?

Dark meat definitely tastes better. I believe that white meat is supposed to be healthier and that’s why they advertise it as “all white meat”.

I prefer white meat. It tastes better, and dark meat is always too greasy.

White meat all the way. But I can see the dark lovers point of view. It is VERY easy for white meat to become too dry.

I agree with this statement, exept I prefer the dark meat.

Dark meat, of course, I have taste! But my dad was a white meat guy. The rest of us loved him anyway.

My sister married into a family of pretentious &%'s. They dress up for Christmas dinner, which is formally served and multi-course. (Everyone knows the best way to have Christmas dinner is to just put everything on the table and pass it around! Eat til you can’t eat any more! have a beer! It’s Christmas! But I digress). They flat out accused my sister of gold-digging, pointing to their elevated social status (why, they’re in the social register! They eat all their meals off real silver, like the civilized should! etc.) and our family’s obvious poverty and boorishness (why, we’re not in the social register! We eat off stainless! etc.) I could go on and on about how offensively arrogant and pretentious they are, but I really only need to tell you this one anecdote (i know there ought to be a colon here, but for some reason, my shift key is only working sporadically, so imagine i put one here)

My sister was over for dinner, and they were serving chicken. Just white meat. My sister says something like, “What, no dark meat? Thighs are the best part of the chicken!” and her future MIL tells her it’s a shame she wasn’t raised with “the better things” and hopefully she’ll learn to appreciate them now that she’s being raised up out of her family’s awful poverty by fiancee’s generosity.

What more does one need to say?

Yumm white meat. Never been a fan of the dark stuff. I just prefer the taste and everything of the white meat better.

My guess for the stressing of “white meat” in commercials:

The advertisers don’t want potential customers to think “fast food chicken” = cheap chicken = dark meat = backs and necks. I prefer dark meat myself when I cook or eat out.

A breast man checking in. I never really cared much for legs and thighs.

A good friend of mine has told me that his parents refused to serve or eat dark meat because they believed it would “turn them black.” Same goes for brown eggs. Now, I’ve heard and read a lot of racist urban legends, but this is one I’ve never encountered anywhere else. Might be connected to the views of lestrange’s in-laws?

FTR, my friend doesn’t even remotely believe what his parents told him, but he was surprised that I had never heard this UL. He thought it was a prevalent belief.
